Barrack for Nikki & The SA State U15 Cricket Team!

Local Cricket Talent Nikki Grosser is proudly representing South Australia in the State Under 15 Cricket Team currently playing in a carnival in Canberra.

Proud Mum Lynn Grosser has been keeping us in touch.
On day one, 18th Jan,  at Queanbeyan, Vic Country sent SA into bat on a hot, windy day. SA lost several early wickets 10/98. Vic batted well and made our score quite quickly with 7 wickets in hand.

On day two, at Crestwick, SA faced Tasmania  in a 40 over, 9 a side game and unfortunately SA lost again.

Today, Friday the girls will face Western Australia in another 40 over match. Good Luck girls.

What a great experience it must be for them to be there playing for SA. There are matches each day, with a rest day on Sunday, and the last match is Monday.
The girls need our encouragement!

You can follow her stats on the MyCricket website for this tournament

Flooding Still Evident at Mt Mary 3 Weeks Later

Local Bower Resident, Sue Thornhill was amazed to find how much water was still present after the huge storm that hit the Mount Mary area on the 28th of December when they were drenched with a 165mm in a storm. Driving not far from her home she went to see if she could find the low lands that got more rain than at her place , Sue had hoped to see the bush, all green ,flowering and pretty. Instead she found the roads impassable and large stretches of water and a lake in the distance. The roads are not ready for traffic at this stage, as they will be damaged further if people try to negotiate them.

Serious Crash - 3 Injured and the Chopper transports two

At approximately 2:12pm on the 4th January emergency services were called to evacuate 3 injured male occupants from a vehicle rollover accident about 6 Km South of Eudunda on the main Eudunda to Truro Highway.

At least two occupants of the car were flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital while the third would be taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital.

From the wreck that remained it would appear lucky that anyone survived. Police are investigating.

The report in the Advertiser was somewhat confusing as they merged the accident with another elsewhere

Vandals Hit Railway Station Again

On the 14th January local ECBAT volunteer Terry Jessen who is  looking after the Eudunda Railway Station was disgusted to find that vandals had destroyed landscaping at the Railway Station. Terry has been working to preserve its condition and make it visually appealing from the point of view of tourism, and has been doing a great job.

The vandals broke in through the chain mesh security fence and smashed a bird bath, many plants and made graffiti on the walls of the station.

Another local identity, Colin Jenke was also disgusted by the cowardly act as the vandals also smashed his helicopter which was part of the successful South Australian Living Artists (SALA) project. (Photo on left of the tail blades broken and laying on the ground)

Police are investigating and if anyone knows any information they are urged to call 'Crimestoppers' on 1800 333 000.

Waterloo Fire

On the 17th January the area East of Waterloo was threatened by a large fire on what was a dangerous weather day.

The CFS website listed Quinn Gap Road Waterloo Grass Fire approximately 13:55pm and at 16:14pm the alerts website reported 19 resources and 5 aircraft in attendance.

The pilots flew in very difficult conditions having to cope with strong winds effects and lots of ground obstacles in the hilly environment below the wind turbines, as they attempted to deliver their load as accurate as possible. Local reports  say that the communities came together again to stop fire in its track, and there is a big thank you to all the incredible CFS volunteers who continue to work on controlling this fire, which late in the evening was at high risk due to a forecast wind change. .
Thank you to Judy Searley of Auburn for this excellent photo of the action.
