Eudunda Parallel Parking On Hold As Council Ask For Advice.

A number of members of the Eudunda Community, Business & Tourism (ECBaT), a representative from SA Ambulance and several other interested community members attended the March meeting of the Regional Council of Goyder to listen to the discussions concerning the parking in Bruce Street. Any changes are currently on hold as the council seeks further information from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and the Council’s insurers, the Local Government Liability Scheme.

ECBAT News Brief for March

The Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism Committee have been writing up a News Brief for people to follow in easy language what is happening around the district. It even gets into the local "print" newspapers. Many thanks to Helen Schiller for going the extra mile to do that.

Emmaus Cemetry Request From Margaret

In my search to find the grave sight of our stillborn baby brother ( May 1951) the search led me to the Emmaus Cemetery just outside Eudunda as  found in the records held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Eudunda.

My sister and I duly went to the cemetery to find Grave 10 Row 7 Number 84. Well to say the least “ Where to find it?”!

We counted back from a recent grave and found 4 unmarked graves, one being our brother.  Looking around there was a whole section of unmarked graves and also some among the others. Total 165 from 326.

The Emmaus Cemetery dates back to 1872 and is still in use today.

There are many old and uncared for graves.  I have appointed myself a “Friend of the Emmaus Cemetery” and together with the members of the Property/ Maintenance Committee of the St.John’s congregation have devised a plan to upgrade the Cemetery.

First of all Trevor Pfitzner drew up a map together with Rows , grave numbers and names, and also a list of names in alphabetical order .This is very precious and  will be preserved in an interpretive sign displayed at the Cemetery in due course.

We applied for Funding through the Regional Council of Goyder Wards Grant  for upgrade of the front fence, gravelling , row markers and the Interpretive signage  which I am happy to say we received.

Further Funding will be sought for Poison for weeds, grave markers and more Gravel.

This is as far as the committee can go, so now I appeal to the Families  of loved ones buried there to contact me re upgrading the graves.

Some of the old names are.. Ziersch, Koster, Sieber, Michalk, Heppner, Fechner, Appelt, Eckermann, Duldig, Kleinig, Hassold, Mader, Handke, Post, Schultz, Pfeiffer, Lindner, Schutz and the list goes on......

If you know if you, or someone you know are 3rd, 4th or 5th  generation descendants of these family names and wish to help by renovating these old graves, please contact me as below. This is your family History.

The entrance to the cemetery is being upgraded. I have had some positive feedback from a couple of families but need more. The interpretive sign has been completed and will be placed at entrance in due course! We plan to have some sort of ceremony at the Cemetery when the upgrade is finished.

Eudunda Caravan Park Progress

An exciting day at the soon to be Eudunda Caravan Park as local business Craig Fenton Contracting based at Brownlow put down the metal for the road and parking areas on Monday 10th April.

Craig Fenton said,
"We have been involved with the project since the start, removing trees and old concrete kerbing, benched the job and shaped it to the plan. then we have done the undergrounding of the services of sewer, power, water and placement of the septic tank. Preparations have even been put in place for an RV Dump Point once funding has been obtained."

Eudunda Community, Business & Tourism (ECBAT) Committee member, Trevor Mathews is pleased that the project is nearing completion.
"We really hope that the Caravan Park can be operational for the Swann Insurance 24 Hour in July, and this is a great step toward that goal."
