Welcome back Ladles and Jellyspoons,
I hope you all had a glorious break, filled with all the delight one can get from copious amounts food, movies and most importantly sleep. If you didn’t even get one of these, I’d recommend you re-evaluate your life choices and submit your will to capitalism! [Disclaimer: Capitalism is broken]
Speaking of life choices, I’d recommend checking out the renovated waterhole. Apart from the usual thirst quenching, it actually looks rather nice. I understand that this learning area may not meet all your study requirements. Don’t stress, Reid Library has also been renovated and it too has scrubbed up nicely.
I do genuinely hope you’ve all recovered sufficiently from semester one and are ready to be wonderful humans on campus once again! Us Science Onions certainly recovered, and in our break we took some time to plan a plethora of events for this semester.
What sort of Sciencey things are we doing in August?
Week 3 is National Science Week (NSW) and as far as I know, we like to do all the Science!
We’ve got a Science Fair on Tuesday,16th on Oak Lawn. We along with all the school specific clubs will be bring some sweet science gizmos! We may or may not have a tesla coil there!
On Wednesday, 17th we’ll be having a 3-Minute Thesis competition where post-graduate students battle it out, to prove that their thesis project is worthy! It’s a great event for 2nd and 3rd year students, so they can get a taste for what their future could possibly entail.
But that’s not all; after the mist of NSW settles, we bringing two events to you on one day! Firstly, we’ll be hosting a Careers Fair on Tuesday the 23rd . Unsure where your science degree can take you? This will be for you! Those of you who are intimidated by the prospect of becoming an adult and building a career, we have another tie-dye workshop for you (also one Tuesday, 23rd)! We figured there wouldn’t be too much overlap!
On Wednesday, 31st we’ll be having our second semester Quiz Night! I am very excited for this one! So very excited I won’t say anymore about it, for I would prefer my pants to stay stainless…
Lastly, we have launched our Sandstorm Ball and tables are disappearing relatively quickly! My advice is to get in relatively quick if you want let your pharaoh-mones run bonkers!
I wish you all a good start,
UWA Science Union
