What is Days for Girls Gold Coast?

Days for Girls Gold Coast is a group of volunteers working as part of an international organisation that provides quality sustainable feminine hygiene kits and awareness to girls living in poverty in over 75 countries. Without access to sanitary supplies, some girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, cornhusks - anything they can find, but still miss up to 2 months of school each year. Volunteers are needed to cut and trace patterns, sew or overlock, pack kits or to assist with fundraising. We are pleased to be doing this in conjunction with the Rotary E-Club of NextGen, Queensland.

Welcome yet again to the monthly newsletter for the Days for Girls Gold Coast Team.

I have been overwhelmed with the support that has been provided from all corners of the country - from both club members of the Rotary e-Club and from people who just want to help.

We are making a huge impact with Social Media through Facebook and the success in sharing posts has been enormous.

These newsletters are another way that you can share the love so why not see if you can get more people on board by sharing this newsletter with the Forward button above. Hard to believe but not everyone is on Facebook!

It's on again and we are so excited.

The Days for Girls Gold Coast Team is holding its second Sewing and Packing Day on
Saturday 5 December at the Lynne Richardson Community Centre, 2a Gidgee Court, Molendinar. Running from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, it's will be so exciting to see the growth in the project over the last few months. Can't sew? Don't let that stop you as there are plenty of jobs that can be done that don't involve sewing and it's not just for females!

This month's focus

It's all about knickers this month and all we are looking for is just one pair of knickers from you. When you go shopping next, can you grab a pair of girls undies (size 10 -16) or ladies (size 8 - 14) and either post these to 11 Whitewood Place, Molendinar QLD 4214 or bring them along to the sewing day.

We have been approached by several places that would love to receive our beautiful kits. These include two requests from Cambodia and two requests for Vanuatu. One of the possible Cambodian projects is requesting 500 kits - a big order to fill but I am sure that we can do it by working together.

Our Tally

Our aim is to get 100 kits completed by the end of the year but we have still some work to go. To do this, we need:

200 shields (with 45 completed so far)
800 liners (with 96 completed so far)
100 bags (with 93 completed so far)
100 face washers (under control)
200 pairs of undies (with just 27 more required)
100 soaps (under control)
200 large zip lock bags (with 100 hundred on hand at the moment)

You can see where we need the most help and with our next sewing day and some home sewing, we can do this. As you can see the liners and shields are the things most needed and we have plenty of cotton on hand and 60 metres of flannelette on its way from the suppliers.

Please let me know if you would like fabric and pick up can be arranged from my place.
Sewing Days

Next year's sewing & packing days are now set on Facebook. For those not on Facebook, we are aiming to hold them on the 2nd Saturday of each month with the exception of February which will be held on the 3rd Saturday. An email newsletter will be sent out before each sewing day but please mark these dates in your calendar.

Rotary e-Club of NextGen

The Days for Girls project is just one of many projects that are being run through the Rotary e-Club. These include Fish & Chips vests for babies in Africa, catering at the Birdsville races to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor service, Kiva grants, work at the Umoja Orphanage in Kenya and contributing to the Polio campaign. The projects are just mind blowing and you can find out more by clicking here and then selecting Service from the menu at the top.

Membership is open to all so please let us know if you would like more information.

every contribution makes a difference to a girl and the girls all over the world say

"Thank you".

Take the time to watch the video to help you see how grateful they are and what a difference you are making.
