What is Days for Girls Gold Coast?

Days for Girls Gold Coast is a group of volunteers working as part of an international organisation that provides quality sustainable feminine hygiene kits and awareness to girls living in poverty in over 75 countries. Without access to sanitary supplies, some girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, cornhusks - anything they can find, but still miss up to 2 months of school each year. Volunteers are needed to cut and trace patterns, sew or overlock, pack kits or to assist with fundraising. We are pleased to be doing this in conjunction with the Rotary E-Club of NextGen, Queensland.

Fundraising BBQ

Thank you to some great support from Gold Coast Fresh Meat Centre, Ian & Heather Yarker from the Rotary e-Club of NextGen, Kevin Moran from the Rotary Club of Ashmore, supporters of Days for Girls Gold Coast Team Mike Pollack, Denise Lawrence, Heather Nyssen and Charmaine Cameron and last, but by no means least, Peter (Stacky) Stackpole, Karen Lamberton and Brooke Rohweder from the Apex Club of Southport, we managed to make over $820 on the day.

This was a great effort and will make a huge difference as the money raised will be used to purchase more material for future kits.

What is the e-Club?

A question that was asked many times at the BBQ so here goes.

The e-Club of NextGen is simply a Rotary Club that holds its meeting online. It's a great way to be part of a fantastic organisation such as Rotary without the need to attend a Dinner Meeting .

The Rotary e-Club of NextGen meets every Tuesday night once they start up again in January and if you would like to have a look, let me know and I will get Bruce to talk you through the process.

The projects that they are involved with are just amazing.

Sewing and Packing Day

Well done and thank you to the 20 fabulous volunteers who supported us on Saturday 5th December at the Lynne Richardson Community Centre, Molendinar.

It was such a great feeling to see so much energy in the room and it was so amazing to see old friends catch up, new friendships made and to have such a great time while doing it.

I haven't had a chance to work out exactly what we have as far as finished stock is concerned as my trip to hospital and then Christmas put a bit of a hold on doing this but I will be able to provide feedback at the end of January.

Save the date for the next sewing and packing day!

This will be held on Saturday 20th February - venue to be confirmed.

This month's focus

It's still all about knickers this month and all we are looking for is just one pair of knickers from you. When you go shopping next, can you grab a pair of girls undies (size 10 -16) or ladies (size 8 - 14) and either post these to 11 Whitewood Place, Molendinar QLD 4214 or bring them along to the sewing day. The current tally is 725 which is a fantastic effort. Cash deposits are also a good way to help out, so let me know if this is more convenient for you.

Thank You !

There are so many of you making such wonderful contributions to this project and it couldn't be done without you all.

Whether it is time spent

sewing,
ironing,
cutting
gathering information,
collecting donations, or
work with graphics for our Facebook Page,

every contribution makes a difference to a girl and the girls all over the world say

"Thank you"

Sewing Days

Next year's sewing & packing days are now set on Facebook. For those not on Facebook, we are aiming to hold them on the 2nd Saturday of each month with the exception of February which will be held on the 3rd Saturday. An email newsletter will be sent out before each sewing day but please mark these dates in your calendar.

Rotary e-Club of NextGen

The Days for Girls project is just one of many projects that are being run through the Rotary e-Club. These include Fish & Chips vests for babies in Africa, catering at the Birdsville races to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor service, Kiva grants, work at the Umoja Orphanage in Kenya and contributing to the Polio campaign. The projects are just mind blowing and you can find out more by clicking here and then selecting Service from the menu at the top.

Membership is open to all so please let us know if you would like more information.
