Quarterly Authorpreneurship Tip

If you write with the end goal of publication and having your work read by a large audience,

Securing a URL = reserving a “parking spot” on the Internet where, once you build your website, readers can find you.
As an author, the ideal URL is:    (mine is
The cost to secure a URL is typically low. You have ownership of that address until the term (1 year, 3 years, 5 years, etc.) expires. You will need to renew your ownership before the term expires, or someone else could buy that address and take over your parking spot.

To secure your domain:

1) Type "domain search" into your search engine.
2) Pick a company. (Godaddy, Wix, SquareSpace,, etc.)
3) Use the company's search engine to see if your preferred domain is available.
4) Pay the service provider to reserve the url.

You can transfer your domain to another service provider in the future.

Your only concern now is to reserve your parking spot, because when you're a best-selling author people are going to want to know where to find you.

You finished your draft! The story is done! It's time to... let someone else read it. Sharing a manuscript for the first time can be daunting, but when you have the right Beta Readers sharing can be educational, encouraging, and exciting! I'll cover Beta Reader Basics on Saturday 11/16 at 1 p.m. in the Carmack (big) room.  This is also where I'll signal you to turn in your stealth edits.

Please help us get the word out to as many Kansas City writers as you can. Here's a link to the Facebook event to help share or you can forward this email along.

Hope to see you there!

Stealth Edits at Jo Co Library's
Writers Conference 11/16

If you would like the chance to get four pages of your work edited, for free, by me, here's what you need to do:

1) Join my writer email list (Hooray! you already did that. Good job & way to be an over achiever.)
2) Format your work in standard manuscript formatting.
3) Print a copy and bring it with you to the Jo Co Writers Conference on Saturday, November 16th.
4) Make sure your e-mail address is somewhere on the submission. (Hand write it, type it, put it in braille, doesn't matter to me. Just have your e-mail address on there somewhere!)
5) Give your pages to me when you see the SECRET SIGNAL betweeen 1-2 p.m.  You'll know it when you see it, don't worry.

I'll edit stealth submissions within one month of the conference and email my notes back to you. Priority will be given to people who have not received stealth edits from me in the past.
