August 2018 | Crazy Rich Summer

Y'all. It's about to get real in here. Check out all that we have going on in this newsletter, and you'll see just what a crazy rich summer we've had!

In just a little over a month, please join us for our 10th (and final) Fashion for a Passion charity event, a night to celebrate Asian American designers, artists and performers for a great cause.  From showcasing talented musical performers to exhibiting inspiring art to rocking a fabulous runway show, we'll also have an exciting live auction and must-have raffle prizes.

Tickets are now ON SALE. You can sponsor or donate a raffle prize to FFAP and gain valuable exposure.  Please fill out our Sponsorship Packet and return by September 1st.
Crazy Rich Asians is romantic comedy based on Kevin Kwan's novel by the same name.  Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Kris Aquino, Lisa Lu, Ken Jeong and Michelle Yeoh and follows a young Asian American woman who travels to meet her boyfriend's family, only to find out they are one of the richest in Singapore. It is the first film by a major Hollywood studio in 25 years to feature Asians in the predominant leading roles since 1993's The Joy Luck Club. Make sure our AAPI voices are heard at the box office this weekend #beCAUSE #representationmatters.

We are thrilled this year to present the return of Nha Khanh to our 10th FFAP runway. She will host a shopping event to benefit ATG and help kick-off FFAP, where 20% of proceeds will go towards our cause. We hope you will join us, and please be sure to RSVP!

With your help, we were able to send aid to orphans and underprivileged children in Cambodia last year. Many thanks to our aid advisor, Thear Sy Suzuki, and her family who helped us with these efforts on the ground and with this Video report. We are also so grateful for YOU, our donors, who help us continue this very important work.

"The 2017 ATG funds enabled our on the ground volunteers to distribute food items to 164 children across 16 small churches in 5 different provinces and remote villages. Every year, for the past 3 years, we have been able to assist more children. These children live with grandparents and relatives. They have very little means, lacking basic needs such as food, school supplies and clothes. Aid from ATG is the only source of support for these children. The children are very happy and grateful to receive help from ATG. A heartfelt thanks to the ATG community for generously giving time, energy, and financial resources."

More than ever, it's our time to tell stories that matter. We are still in search of survivor stories for our documentary-in-production, Light of Day Documentary, which will give voice to another set of controversial and untold stories of domestic violence against Asian women and children. If you would like to share your story or donate to help us complete this important project, please contact us.

Through our Scholarship Program, ATG proudly awards Artistic, Groundbreaker Leadership, #LiveLikeLyly and most recently the Lily Pabilona Emerging Entrepreneur scholarships to a select group of amazing Asian American high school seniors, college undergraduate and graduate school students who are shining examples of what it means to go Against The Grain. Since 2011, we have awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships. Our selection committee reviews a combination of criteria: GPA, extracurricular activities, portfolio, essay and letters of recommendation. Finalists were given a phone interview,. We are truly proud of this exceptional group and look forward to all that we know they will accomplish for their vocation and for the Asian American community in the future.
