Camden School Climate Charter -
Next steps...

What is the Schools Climate Charter?

The charter is a local framework to empower schools to play their part in making Camden a zero-carbon borough by 2030.

Signatories will declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency and commit to actions to contribute to addressing it. Schools will select 3 out of the 10 charter commitments to work towards during year one.

Already signed the charter? Here's what to do next...

If you would like to hold a workshop at your school help, contact Think and Do here.

Still thinking about signing the charter? Take inspiration from what some Camden school signatories have been doing...

  • Torriano Primary - have integrated the themes of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the school and turned them into actionable projects.
  • University College School - have measured their emissions and created two sustainable action forums, one of which is a dedicated 'Green Impact' student environmental group.
  • Parliament Hill Primary - have developed a student-led action plan and have planted an orchard, created a plastic waste campaign, organised clothes swaps plus much more.

For more information about signing the charter, see here.

Join the next 'Barrier Busters' session!
Tuesday 25 Sept, 4pm

The sustainability peer support group has had a rebrand! As we enter the next phase of schools climate work following the launch of the charter, the peer support network will go forward as 'Barrier Busters' climate action sessions.

The sessions will keep the same format as before, but with the 'deep dives' framed around trouble-shooting the different charter themes. There will still be time during the sessions to touch on other queries or areas of interest.

Think and Do will be leading the sessions whilst continuing to work closely with Council officers to deliver the tailored sessions.

The next session is planned for Tuesday 25 January at 4pm and will be on rewilding/biodiversity. See below for the meeting link details:

New Year, New Tree!

Would you like to see beautiful spring blossoms and fruit flourish at your school? Think and Do have teamed up with the KOKO Foundation and are giving away free fruit trees to Camden schools.

You can choose from a Plum, Pear or Apple Tree for your school!

Taking part in the project will mean that your school will also join the Camden Beeline community - connecting schools and their green spaces, as well as being part of the Camden Forest project, which helps plant more trees to tackle climate change in the borough.

To take part, send your school address, contact details and your choice of tree by 28 January to Think and Do here.

All information can be found on the poster here - share this opportunity with colleagues or other nearby schools!

What's all the buzz about? Join the Camden Beeline!

The Camden Beeline aims to connect school communities in Camden through greening and rewilding school spaces.

In doing so, this will help to create pollinator pathways across the borough, enabling trees, plants and biodiversity to flourish.

The project will also help educate students about the importance of taking care of the environment and nature, and the positive impacts it has for well-being and air quality.

The live map shows which schools are already taking part and will help to show how schools in Camden connect via wildlife corridors. More schools, more connections and happier bees. No school space is too small to take part - explore the beeline website here.

If you are interested in joining the Camden Beeline, express your interest here. You can also come along to January's Barrier Buster session to hear more!

Tackling the climate crisis in Camden will require everyone to play their part, with all contributions valuable, no matter how big or small. Teachers have the opportunity and responsibility to educate the next generation and to encourage our future ambassadors and 'big-thinkers' on tackling climate change.

Help spread the word about how schools can get involved with taking climate action and the support available.
