2nd Annual DC STEM Summit was a success!


The 2nd Annual DC STEM Summit was held on November 7, 2016, at Carnegie Science. Partners explored recently released resources from the 2016 working groups, started working on new 2017 Challenges and Strategies, and created connections with other STEM education partners! Check out some of the resources from the working groups below!

STEM School Recognition


DC STEM Network is launching a STEM School Survey! If you are interested in being a part of the pilot STEM School Recognition process in Spring 2017, please fill out the school form online!

The DC STEM Network's Working Group is still available to assist schools in creating a STEM Improvement Plan! Network representatives are available to provide a free consultation. Fill out the form to get connected!

DC STEM Fair: Safety Review Committee is accepting projects for review

2017 Secondary Fair Dates

  • Fall 2016 - DC STEM Fair opened the Safety Review Committee (SRC) process. Projects involving human participants, vertebrate animals, and potentially hazardous biological agents, must be reviewed and approved by the DC STEM Fair’s Scientific Review Committee (SRC) and/or its associated Institutional Review Board (IRB).   • January 11, 2017 - Registration opens (www.dcstemfair.org)
  • February 24, 2017 - Registration ends
    • All middle and high school STEM fairs MUST be completed, and all student names and projects must be submitted by February 24th. 
    • Teams can include up to 3 students. 
    • Schools can register up to 3 projects, and add 2 projects to the waitlist. 
  • March 11, 2017 - Secondary STEM Fair, location Dunbar HS
  • March 13, 2017 - Awards Ceremony, Carnegie Science (1530 P St., NW)

2017 Elementary Fair Dates:

  • April 4, 2017 - Registration opens (www.dcstemfair.org)
  • May 18, 2017 - Registration ends
    • All elementary DC school fairs MUST be completed and all student names and projects must be submitted by May 18th.
    • Teams can include up to 4 students. 
    • Schools can register up to 3 projects, and add 2 projects to the waitlist. 
  • June 3, 2017 - Elementary STEM Fair and Awards Ceremony, location TBA

Join the STEM Teacher Leader Cadre!

The STEM TLC is a year-long program for full-time DC Public School (DCPS) and DC Public Charter (DCPCS) school teachers. The DC STEM Network is looking for outstanding, experienced, Pre-K–12th grade STEM teachers who will build their leadership capacity to deliver STEM professional development to their schools, communities, and throughout the region, collaborate with like-minded educators, and receive specialized, interactive, and engaging PD sessions.

STEM TLC members will receive a $1,500 stipend for participating in the school year 2016-17 cohort. Check out our website for more information and to apply today!

Request or Become a STEM Volunteer


The DC STEM Network has launched a new volunteer mailing list. This list, published weekly, includes volunteer opportunities for school and out-of-school time education settings in DC. If you are interested, you can sign up to receive the mailing list. DC Educators seeking mentors or volunteers may submit a Volunteer Request Form. We have matched several volunteers with schools and nonprofit organizations within the last week!
