Review of Laboratory Grown Diamonds evolution in 2015

With an end to a successful year for the laboratory grown diamond industry, we highlight the significant events for you.

This year the lab-grown diamond business witnessed a highly progressive outlook from both the consumers and the industry. The technological advancements in the production capacities of the lab-grown diamonds were demonstrated with exceptional expertise. The largest lab-grown diamond was produced, a 10.02ct square emerald cut E VS1 excellent finish, was reported by the International Gemological Institute.

Seeing the significant progress made in the lab-grown diamond industry in the last year, GIA announced the opening of the new synthesis facility in New Jersey by January 2016. Tom Moses, GIA Executive Vice President and Chief Laboratory and Research Officer said, Lab-grown diamonds are now a fact of life for the industry!

Several diamond detection devices have been launched and advanced to enable transparent practices. We highlight one of the most affordable and compact diamond detection machines- D-Screen, priced at about US$500-. A handheld device which can distinguish natural diamonds from diamonds that are potentially lab-grown or had their color improved by means of HPHT. The diamond sizes covered are from 0.02 to 10ct in the colors D to J.

The year ended on a memorable note with the famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who featured in the movie Blood Diamonds, announcing along with few other Wall Street Billionaires to invest in a laboratory grown diamond foundry due to concerns regarding the human and environmental toll in the mined diamond industry.

2015 will be probably remembered as the year of the real break through for Laboratory Grown Diamonds. We are looking forward to a very exciting 2016 !

Warm Regards,
