St. Nicholas the Wonderworker
is one of the most popular saints, not only because of his many miracles but especially for his charity. It is believed that his parents, who were merchants, died when he was only a teenager. They lived in a city called Myra in what is now Turkey. He suffered persecution at the hands of the hands of the pagans in his early years. Because of his devotion as a Christian, the people of Myra chose him to be their bishop. In the years 325 AD he attended the Council of Nicaea. There are many stories about his charitable works as a result of which he become the patron saint of merchants, sailors, scholars and travellers. He is most revered as the patron saint of children. On his name day, in Ukraine and many others countries, he visits little children and leaves them gifts. His remains are in Bari, Italy, where they were brought by Italian sailors for protection. Over the centuries, a sweet smelling oil comes from his remains and many miracles are attributed to his intercession.

Euthanasia/Assisted – Did You Know?
The Government of Canada passed legislation in June 2016, legalizing euthanasia/assisted suicide. Despite wording intended to protect doctors and facilities, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is forcing health care workers to arrange for the killing of their patients. No other country does this. Provinces across Canada do not do this. Yet, Ontario refuses to protect doctors who object to ending the life of their patients. Please visit www.CandiansforConscience.ca
to learn more and write directly to your elected Member of Provincial Parliament.
