The Viva Village Pilot has been a Success!
Many thanks to the hard-working Volunteers
and the patient and helpful Members
who have helped test the systems that will
make Viva Village a continued success!
Some lessons learned from the Pilot:
- Members are a great help in sharing Viva Village with the broader community.
- Members have discovered that remaining independent often means asking for help.
- Some Members need a little nudge to ask for services. (Volunteers don't require a clean house to come help.)
- Volunteers are excited to offer services.
- More volunteers with "ladder privileges" are needed. (Several popular service requests involve ladder usage.)
- Some needed Village support volunteer positions were identified:
- Membership advocate
- Prospective member liaison
- More office staff
- Additional action team members
- The office is invaluable as a center of coordinated functioning.
- Office hours 5 days a week (instead of the current 4 days) would better serve Members and Volunteers.
- Office procedures are undergoing revision as a result of learning by doing.
- Both volunteer and membership forms are to be revised for ease of use with the database.
- New Village support volunteers appreciate starting with small projects.
- More clarity about events is needed.
- Our hub, Villages NW, is an important asset and resource (we knew that already)
Again, thank you to everyone — Full Service Members,
Associate Members, Volunteers, and Donors!
With your help we continue to build on our successes,
moving Viva Village towards being a
meaningful and lasting presence in the Beaverton area.

Viva Village Nature Walk
Kaiser Woods Park–
Rock Creek Trail
January 7, 2017
10:00–11:00 am
15092 Twoponds Drive
Portland 97229
Start the brand New Year with a Nature Walk!
Park at 15092 NW Twoponds Dr. (green arrow) and walk to the pond to enjoy the singing birds and the lovely view. Bring your portable stool because there is no bench.
Walk west almost to the end of Rock Creek Trail. (You’ll have to go up the street at Goldenweed to find a wheelchair access across the street.) Between NW Goldenweed Dr. and NW Mcgregor Terrace is a switchback to a long bench (purple arrow, nice view) and a little farther along is a fantastic playground (blue arrow) and picnic tables.
The paved switchback is steep but a wheelchair could easily stay on the flatter part of the trail to the playground. (There is no restroom.)
Turn around at the red arrow for a total of .8 miles back to your car. (The trail is not steep but the ground slopes very slightly from side to side, so it takes a bit of extra energy to keep your wheels straight on the path.)
