Goals For Meeting
Discuss subcommittee recommendations, plan activities and evaluate statewide progress on scaling up PBIS using the Stages of Implementation (Fixsen et al., 2005) framework.

What We Did
  • Welcomed everyone and reviewed meeting roles/norms/expectation/minutes/agenda.
  • Subcommittees reported out on tasks assigned.
  • Reviewed Dr. Rob Horner’s presentation on lesson learned from statewide adoption of PBIS around the nation.
  • Subcommittees convened and discussed Objectives 5, 6, 7, and 9.
  • We co-created this Communiqué and Executive Summary of our day-long meeting.
What We Learned
  • We were the first to learn that the Behavior Education Technology Conference (BET-C) will be on October 25-26, 2016 (shifted from spring to fall).
  • The popular PBISaz Achievement Awards will be presented at a special luncheon in late April 2016.
  • ADE has a Guidance Document on Seclusion and Restraint based on the most recent SB 1495 law and we will be improving upon it this year.
  • Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) has included PBIS as part of their 5-year strategic plan - isn't that great!.
  • Arizona is lagging behind other states in number of schools trained to implement PBIS with fidelity - but PBISaz.org is working to build our capacity.
  • We agreed that there needs to be greater collaboration and a common language between groups working on behalf of children such as: educators, behavior health, mental health, developmental disabilities, system of care, etc.
  • We enjoyed dividing into subcommittee work groups to converse about advancing our goals, objectives and action plans for this year.
What We Accomplished
  • Renaldo Fowler, Dick Geasland and Sheri Dollin volunteered  to be added to the subcommittee on (DDD/PBIS pilot program).
  • We discussed data from the September Communiqué mailing including open rate, click rate and which URL’s were popular.
  • Made decisions on PBISaz Achievement Award criteria which will be announced by December 1, 2016.
  • Discussed formalizing partnership between PBIS and other stakeholder organizations.
  • Discussed whom to recruit to expand the Arizona PBS Network.
  • Choose a focus/topic for five videos to be created to promote PBIS to different stakeholder groups.
  • Identified key concepts and common language to use across organizations such as trauma, permanency and educational success.
Next Steps
  • Dr. Davidson will request data from the Adverse Childhood Experiences Consortium
  • Subcommittees will continue to meet and report at next meeting.
  • Our detailed meeting minutes are available here for all our meetings.
  • This Communiqué will be distributed broadly to the entire PBISaz Community of Practice. Please share this email with at least two people who you think can benefit from the information and encourage them to subscribe

We want to hear from you:

  • What would you like to hear from a school that is currently implementing PBIS with high fidelity?
  • What information on PBIS or PBISaz would you like to know?
  • Who do you think we need to reach out to and share the amazing outcomes that PBIS achieves?
