de Royan Summer 2013
In 1699 Phillip De Royan was the first owner of a piece of untamed land, today known as Lelienfontein, the home of Bosman Family Vineyards.

Dear << Test First Name >>

It is a new year.  We all survived the end of the Mayan calendar and hopefully had a great festive season with family & friends.  So what will be happening in our humble world of wine in 2013?

We are about to start harvesting and the expectation and excitement is electric in the cellar.  Apart from a few days of heavy winds at the start of our growing season, there has been very little to complain about with regards to the 2013 harvest.  Our winemaker, Corlea Fourie, and viticulturist, Heinie Nel, will keep you posted during the harvest on our blog, so do take a look from time to time.  Heinie & Corlea can be very entertaining, especially after only 3 hours of sleep a night!

Most of you have attend the annual Wellington Harvest Festival during March or at least know about it.  The sad news is that this event has been cancelled by the Wellington Wine Route due to numerous reasons.  This means that our Bosman Long Lunch will not take place this year during March.  Hold your horses though, or should I say mountain bikes...

The good news is that the Cape Epic will visit Wellington on the 21st & 22nd of March 2013.  Preparations are already well underway.  With the 21st of March 2013 being a public holiday in South Africa, we have decided to keep our historic Bosman cellar at Lelienfontein open for the day.  Watch this space for more details in the future.

J&B MET: 2 February 2013

The J&B Met is one of the highlights on the Cape Town social calendar.  For the third year running we will be the official wine sponsor for this event.  If you are one of the fortunate socialites to attend this glamorous day at the races at the Kenilworth Race Course, look out for our Bosman & De Bos wines in your exclusive corporate dining & entertainment area as well as at our wine bar in the public area in front of the main Grand stand.

Our Bosman Family Wine Club members will be glad to know that we will be exhibiting at various consumer wine shows in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth this year.  Please use this opportunity to contact me to receive complimentary tickets as a Club Member to a wine show in your area.  These shows are also fantastic opportunities to acquaint yourself with recently released wines from our range.

Prowein International Wine Fare, 24-26 March 2013

Our international associates and friends will be glad to know that we will attend Prowein International Wine Fare in Düsseldorf from 24-26 March 2013.  Apart from eating our yearly quota of eisbein, we will be at the Bosman Family Vineyards stand on the WOSA South African Wine Pavilion.  Some of our wines will also be featured at the various themed tasting pods available on WOSA's stand.  Do come and say hello or set up a meeting with our sales manager Antonia Bosman at if you would like to discuss business.

25 FEBRUARY - 2 MARCH 2013

Once a year all Fairtrade producers and retailers supporting Fairtrade make an effort to let consumers learn, taste, experience and savour more about the Fairtrade movement.   We are planning some exciting events and would like you to share in these events to learn more about this wonderful way to shop responsibly.  A good way to start and to be informed about what will be happening during Fairtrade week in South Africa is by liking our De Bos Facebook page.

Yes! Our premium Fairtrade range, De Bos, has been accepted extremely positively in the marketplace as you will see from the comments of some of the journalists & trade that have tasted this exciting range:

"Stunning wines!"
Michael Olivier - Crush Magazine

"I was most impressed with the wines"
Mike Bampfield Duggan - Wine Concepts, Cape Town

" The Bosman family story is such a good one, and what nice people - the wines were delicious"
Toni Younghusband - Newsnow

"What a pleasure it was to be able to enjoy the new range of De Bos wines"
Allan Mullins - Woolworths

"The De Bos range does not only soothe the soul.  Being a Fairtrade product, it is also healthier for you"

A brand new Fairtrade fan paid us a visit at Lelienfontein at the end of last year to learn more about Fairtrade: Reuben Reiffel.  What an awesome guy with a refreshing outlook on food and entertainment!

Reuben, it was great to host you as our guest at Lelienfontein and our best wishes with your ventures for 2013.  We know you will excel in what you do because of your attention to detail but also because of your empowering humility and your capacity to develop others to become the great individuals they can become.

reaching for the stars

Our commitment to quality and innovation is demonstrated by the gentle, hands-on approach in our winery.  Grapes are handpicked and meticulously hand-sorted with the main aim in this cellar to allow the quality of the fruit to stand proud.  And when this natural quality gets recognised it simply is a wonderful acknowledgement to the sterling effort Corlea, Heinie and their teams put into each bottle of handcrafted wine.  Congratulations to them on the following outstanding accolades:

Bosman Erfenis 2010: Platter 4.5*star
Bosman Pinotage 2010: Best Pinotage of Wellington Region (South African Terroir Awards 2012)
De Bos Handpicked Cabernet Sauvignon - 91/100 Decanter magazine Feb 2013 & Veritas

If you have been to our cellar recently, you would have noticed something different.  If you have collected some vines from our vine storage facility recently, you would also have noticed something different.

We now generate 88kW of electricity and lower our carbon footprint by 22 000 tons from 620 square meters of solar panels installed on the north facing roofs of our cellar and various storerooms on our farms.  This, as well as solar geysers recently installed on approximately 130 houses of families living on our farms, forms part of our renewable strategy.  We will soon share more news about further initiatives that are currently being implemented to reach our goals.

We like to suggest at least one attraction in Wellington to experience when you are to visit our beautiful valley again.  This boarding house of the iconic South African poet and writer, Breyten Breytenbach, the Breytenbach Centre, has developed into an enigmatic hub in our region for visual & performing arts, crafts, writing, reading and social development.  Theo Kemp, visionary head of the centre, has played a fundamental role in the popularity of the centre in recent years and needs to be praised for his excellent work.  Do take a look at their website - or even better - pay them a visit when you are in Wellington.

“The Pinot Gris is the best wine I’ve tasted so far!” as quoted from an enthusiastic Bosman Wine Club member. Interesting fact is that Corlea makes small batches of wines that we release only once and is especially made for Wine Club members. You will notice the wine labels with a red border around the etiquette are the wines we reserve only for members so that they can enjoy this exclusivity.

The Pinot Gris is one of those released just before summer and is gaining popularity especially during the summer months. If you haven’t tasted it yet, I would like to include a complimentary sample in your next order of 11 bottles. The 12th bottle will be complimentary Pinot Gris. This offer will only be until the end of March.

"The unexamined life is not worth living for a human being."

Maybe it is a more comfortable place to except the status quo in our lives than to change.  In time it may be not.
Maybe the uneasiness of silence is worse to be confronted with in our lives than noise. In time it may be not.
Maybe the unknown alternative in our lives seems like harder work that the known.  In time it may be not.

Whatever you believe is true, may we believe in the beginning of 2013 that a new world is possible.  May we be surprised at the possibilities of a different way.  And may we understand that different is not always bad or wrong.  It may only be...

To hope!

Carla Bosman
Best regards,
Carla Bosman
