It's just a first date.

Hello friends,

I was in high school when my mom got remarried. In house we moved into, my parents had a giant bathtub. It might've been just plain bigger than most tubs but in my memory it was Olympic. On Saturdays when no one was home, I'd fill it up and read GQ. Specifically, Glenn O'Brien's The Style Guy column. I reread O'Brien's advice as if an uncle was slipping me notes under the bathroom door on how to get ready for life, dating, and identity once I wiped the suds off my body.

Glenn O'Brien died one year ago. When I went into production for season one of OMNH, I was surprised at how much influence O'Brien had on the show and on my development.
It wasn’t that he was a hero but his guidance was heeded and he had a job I liked.

I’d be ok with a career of telling men what to do.

For the times I look in the mirror before I leave the house or whenever men talk to me about their dating rituals, I think, "what wisdom would Glenn O'Brien shine on all of us here?"

For this month's Other Men Need Help BONUS episode, we're marking the anniversary Glenn O'Brien's passing by looking at the blind spots of other men on first dates! AND we're featuring live stories by Aparna Nancherla, Richard Cardillo, and Isaac Oliver!

Other Men Need Help and Mark got a tv profile last month! Special thanks to our friends at BRIC TV for saying "hey, let's hear more about these thoughts about men." Half of this is animated as well which was weird and also made me perky. I've never thought about how I'd look animated. Have you?
And thank you to Ben Ellman and the Los Angeles Review of Books for this beautiful appraisal of the show. It's really energizing. We'll be back next month with more emblems, habits, and struts. Until then...

Adios Chau Chau Byeeeeeeeeee,

I'm not sure how The Gender Knot came on my radar but I'm glad it did. Recently named one of the 50 top podcasts by Time, The Gender Knot tries to tackle a gnarly gender issue every week. From the look at how gender shapes business to the male response to #MeToo, the show dives deep into these topics with empathy, expert analysis, and a wonderful rapport with hosts Nas and Jonathan. They're currently gearing up for an ambitious third season but don't fret. They're two seasons of stunning content and a whole range of bonus episodes leading up their S3 premiere later this year. You can find them on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and a number of other streaming sources.
