2023 Festival Programming

Program 2023 Bulletin #1

You are receiving this bulletin because you have been a recent presenter at WWC. Thank you for your support. When Words Collide is a unique type of festival where everyone–organizers and presenters–volunteer their time and efforts to bring readers and writers together in a celebratory weekend. Without you, there would be no festival.

The Last Chapter

If you have read the most recent WWC News & Notes, you will have seen that next summer will be our last festival. It has been a wonderful dozen years, but our core organizers and volunteers have aged and need to meet other demands on our lives. I believe the pandemic has also taken its toll on people's availability. It is our hope that others will create an event to fill the void. For now, we are focused on one last hurrah next summer.

When Words Collide 2023, Aug 4-6

If you have presented at WWC pre-pandemic, next year will be the same format. We have no plans for any hybrid events. At this time we will be 100% in-person. Note that the festival will be held one week earlier than usual. (A wedding stole our weekend). And that Monday, August 7th, immediately following the festival, is Heritage Day in Alberta.

We have booked 100% of the hotel meeting space for the weekend and will run 8-10 concurrent programming tracks Friday 1 pm through Sunday 5 pm as well as hosting blue pencil and pitch sessions.

At this time we are looking for topics for panel discussions and presentations. If there is a topic you would like to present on or see, please let us know at info@whenwordscollide.org.

Filled panels may also be proposed if you already have co-presenters lined up.
We are also looking for agents/editors to volunteer to hold pitch sessions and blue pencil cafes.

We will maintain a database over the coming weeks and months and make our topics lists available via future bulletins for you to volunteer to sit on suggested panels or confirm availability for proposed presentations.

As this will be our final festival, we hope you will take the opportunity to join us.
