Newsletter
Welcome to the new WestCOG monthly newsletter! It's a great place to find updates and opportunities in the region. Along with this monthly newsletter, you can get updates in real time by following us on Twitter or liking our Facebook page using the links above.

New WestCOG Website
WestCOG's new website will to go live November 1st. In the meantime, a preview is available at westcoggis.org. If you have comments or questions, send them to Associate Planner, Liz Esposito at eesposito@westcog.org. Her profile is below.

Project Updates
  • Green-light given to Route 7/15 Interchange Design: WestCOG approved $20 million to complete engineering for the Route 7 - Merritt Parkway intersection in Norwalk.
  • Norwalk Bus Studies Approved: $750,000 has been allocated to study Norwalk Transit District's bus routes and facilities. The first such studies of their kind in 30 years.
  • Major Studies Prepare to Launch: Work is underway to select consultants to perform the Stamford Bicycle & Pedestrian Study and Noroton Heights Train Station Access Study. The substantive parts of the studies will begin in early 2016 once consultant selection and negotiations are complete.
  • Progress on Public Works AVL:  Now that GPS equipment has been installed in municipal vehicles in Norwalk, Westport & Wilton, consultants are developing a web-based app, to track vehicle location.
  • Hazard Mitigation Plans Completed: Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMPs) are being adopted by the northern 10 towns. Final HMPs are being prepared and sent to FEMA for review for the southern 8 towns. The target date for adoption is March 2016. 
  • Branchville Charrette: In September, a charrette was held for Branchville redevelopment. Consultants organized a 3-day public meeting where residents and stakeholders presented and refined plans for Transit Oriented Development around the train station. 
  • Stamford Bus & Shuttle Study Website Launches: Visit it here.
  • GIS: The planametric data from the southern 8 towns are being finalized and the final draft for the northern 10 towns RFP is being reviewed. Keep an eye out for a Regional GIS Meeting later this Fall.

Grant Opportunities
  • The DECD is accepting applications for Brownfield Redevelopment until November 16, 2015.  Details here.
  • The OPM is accepting applications for the next round of Inter-town Capital Equipment (ICE) Purchase Incentive Program grants until December 1, 2015. Details here.
  • DEEP's Office of Constituent Affairs/Land Management on the following grant programs are offering 2 grants: Open Space & Watershed Land Acquisition (OSWA) program, and Urban Green/Community Garden program. Applications for both programs are due on February 2, 2016. More information, here.

Staff Profile: Elizabeth Esposito
 An Associate Planner, Liz manages regional services including the Drug Task Force, the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, and communications for WestCOG. Liz graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in Environmental Science & Policy.
 
Before coming to WestCOG, she worked at the Central CT Regional Planning Agency, completing projects in food access/security, hazard resiliency, and educational opportunity. She also managed an award-winning Main Street Program in St. Helens, Oregon, and worked as an Assistant Planner for the Village of Port Chester, NY. In her spare time, Liz is an avid reader and hiker.

Regional News & Events
A week-long public charrette for the Transit Oriented Development area round Bethel's train station and its Village Center kicks off November 16th. Details here.

WestCOG will be hosting a lunch for municipal planners and land use officials on November 16th from 12-1:30pm at Redding Town Hall. The lunch will feature a presentation on residential solar projects by the CT Green Bank.
