Elementary Updates

Wiley and the Hairy Man

The 1st grade class recently went to a production of Wiley and the Hairy Man, a play adapted from an American folktale. It recounts a heroic tale of the young Wiley. With the help of his conjuring mother Mammy, and his faithful companion Dog, he sets out to face the unrelenting Hairy Man. In a stirring duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own strengths in order to conquer his fears. The performers are members of SUNY Potsdam's Theater and Dance Department.

Author Visit

Banford Elementary students had a very special visitor last week, author Kiley Frank! Ms. Frank is the author of the book, Tomorrow is Waiting. Our special visitor held assemblies with grades PK-1 and 2-4, conducted a book signing, visited PK, and joined our P2 students at lunch. We thoroughly appreciated her interactive message, which included elements of the Positivity Project, what authors and illustrators do, and how they pick the words and images in a book, as well some student poetry! Thanks to our BPO and sponsors of books that were signed for each classroom: County Seat Realty, C2AE Architecture and Engineering, as well as Atlantic Testing!

Sound of Music Preview

Banford Elementary students enjoyed a sneak-peek at the high school musical, The Sound of Music. They were treated to "My Favorite Things" and "Do-Re-Mi." Thanks to the MS and HS students for putting on the performance for us and for being our guests this week at the P2 table!
