New Year New Vision!

Hello Wisconsin Job's Daughters!

First of all, I want you to know how honored I am to be your Grand Guardian this year.

Our theme for this year is Be Who You Are.  One of the things I love the most about Jobies is the individuality of each daughter and their ability to accept each other for who they are.  We all bring unique qualities to this organization.  We, as adults, need to embrace this in each other and work together to promote and grow Job’s Daughters in Wisconsin.  Don’t be afraid to be yourself and to share your ideas, thoughts and questions; especially if they are not “the way we have always done it”!

Character is not something we just develop overnight.  For me, it came from family values, religious upbringing and Job’s Daughters.  The basic principles of good character come from integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, perseverance, humility, compassion and respect for others.  Daughters and Adults, I ask you to think about these characteristics as you interact with one another and make decisions for this organization.  Be strong in the moment of choice to make the right choice even when it may be difficult.  Stand up and speak out  -  don’t be afraid to voice your ideas or questions, just remember to be respectful.  And always guard your character – Be true to yourself always. As Steven Covey said “Begin each day with the blueprint of your deepest values firmly in mind then when challenges come, make decisions based on those values.”

We have 2 main areas of focus for this year.   Promotion of Job’s Daughters needs to be consistent and frequent and positive.   We have chosen to use the new logo that Supreme rolled out last year.  This focuses attention on Job’s Daughters, not owls and sock monkeys.  Hopefully when you wear these items, people will ask you about Job’s Daughters, giving you that opening you need to start up that conversation.  We would love to hear your ideas about outlets where we can talk about Wisconsin Job’s Daughters…radio, tv, social media, podcasts are all ideas we hope to touch on this year…but promotion has to be ongoing, so please, as opportunities come to your attention, please let us know!

The 2nd focus area is essentially, strategic planning.  I know that may sound boring but it is essential.  At work, a couple of years ago, we had a speaker, Steven Shallenberger, the author of “Becoming Your Best – The 12 Principles of Highly Successful Leaders”.  One of the chapters of the book is about creating a vision.  Joel Barker said “Vision without action is a dream.  Action without vision is simply passing the time.  Action with Vision is making a positive difference.”   This got me thinking about Job’s Daughters.  What is our vision?  I do want to make a positive difference, so I knew we needed to start with a vision statement.  I got together with Mom Sheryl Bertram, and Mom Val Riewe and we developed a vision statement for Wisconsin Job’s Daughters.  A vision is a high level desired outcome or accomplishment that you hope to achieve.  The vision is meant to provide direction and clarity that leads to achieving our best results.  This vision should be reinforced often..at Bethel and Council Meetings, it will be added to our website and I hope to hear you all referring to it as I visit your Bethels.    The Executive Grand Guardian Council will refer to it as we work on a strategic plan to move us forward.

So, here it is, our new vision statement!

Wisconsin Job’s Daughters is a positive and fun environment where we practice respect and compassion, build confidence and develop leaders.

I hope you will all embrace this vision to create and develop goals and a plan to get there for your Bethel.  Because when you create and live with a vision, you actually create your future!

Sincerely,

Mom Heidi Behlke          Dad Todd Campbell
