Greetings from Broad & Vine!

On Friday, June 7, 2019, Roman Catholic High School held the 126th Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Exercises for the graduating Class of 2019. Both the Mass and ceremony will occur at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul. The Class of 2019 will be attending colleges in 11 states across the country, from New England to Florida, and from New Jersey to Arizona.  In addition, I am proud to announce that over ninety percent of this year’s graduating class will attend post-secondary institutions.  Six of our graduates will be serving our country in the military. The class has been awarded in scholarships and grants, a total of over 22 million dollars.

In addition to our ceremonies, honorary degrees were given to both Mr. James Irwin McMullin (posthumously) & Mr. James A. Fogarty.

Mr. McMullin was enrolled in Roman in the 1920's and had to leave to go into the workforce to assist his family during the Great Depression. Then, once World War II broke out he proudly served his country. Two of Mr. McMullin's grandsons, both Roman graduates, accepted for him.  Also Mr. McMullin two other grandsons, twin brothers, graduated this year as part of the 2019 class.

Mr. Fogarty was very excited to attend Catholic High, but the year prior to his enrolling the boundaries were changed, and he had to attend North Catholic (which he attended for three years).  Jim's mother was in charge of the Roman cafeteria at the time - Jim later donated a bench in his mother's name which sits in the courtyard outside the cafeteria.  Jim's mother approached the Rector at Roman going into his senior year and received permission for Jim to attend Roman. As fate would have it, Jim received his draft notice into the Vietnam War.  Jim was opposed to deferring his draft and decided with much pride to serve his country.  Jim received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his service.

Both the McMullin family and Mr. Fogarty were so proud and appreciative of their honorary degrees.  To the applause of everyone in attendance, Mr. Fogarty raised his framed degree over his head after Father Bongard presented it to him.

The Roman Catholic High School community is proud and excited to see our students continue their academic achievements and enhance their talents in diverse and prestigious institutions both close to and far from home. You can view all of the photos from the day on our Facebook page (link is at the bottom of this e-mail). Again, congratulations and good luck to the Class of 2019!!!

THANK YOU!

Day of Giving is about the power of the Roman community. By coming together as Cahillites, we demonstrated the collective impact that a day can make. Because of generous donors, like you, we’re able to help our students. Cahillites are amazing!

Although we fell short of our donor goal of 500, by roughly 100 donors, we far exceeded our monetary goals by raising over $41,000!!! The day was a huge success. We had participation obviously from alumni but also faculty, staff, coaches, parents both current and alumni, and much more! Thank you again to everyone for giving and spreading the word about this powerful day!

Didn’t get a chance to be a part of the day? The adventure never ends, you can show your support now and click the image below to give now the Roman Fund. Make sure to make your gift before the fiscal year ends after June 30th.

Learn how your Pennsylvania Tax Dollars
can support Roman
students!

The Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs allow Pennsylvania tax payers to become members of an SPE (Special Purpose Entity) that is established by a scholarship organization. A two year commitment yields a 90% PA tax credit of the donation amount. In effect if you make a $1,000 commitment you get a $900 state tax credit, so your net out of pocket is only $100.  This is a powerful way to leverage a contribution to Roman.  Through this program you redirect your PA tax dollars to help students attend Roman rather than the government. It is truly a win-win!

Commitment forms are due July 1st, so act quickly!  Please contact Adam Gault '08, Director of Development,  via e-mail AGault@RomanCatholicHS.com or call 215-627-5487 ext. 311. for more information.
