ACT NOW TO HELP ROMAN STUDENTS THROUGH EITC PROGRAM WITH BLOCS

Why send your personal Pennsylvania taxes to Harrisburg when you can redirect these dollars to financial aid for students at Roman Catholic High School?

The Business Leaders Organized for Catholic Schools (BLOCS) has a limited number of spots available for new participants to redirect their personal 2020 PA income tax liability of $5,000 or more to financial aid to Roman for this fiscal year. By utilizing the EITC / OSTC tax credit program in Pennsylvania, BLOCS has formed Special Purpose Entities (SPE) that allow for participants to redirect their PA tax dollars to Roman. By joining an SPE with BLOCS and making a 2-year commitment, you are able to receive a personal tax credit of 90% of the amount you donate. These credits will then be issued on a K-1 and applied to your PA tax liability by you or your accountant.

Essentially, instead of paying your personal PA taxes, you are redirecting these dollars to Roman as need-based scholarships for today's Cahillites...this school year!

We know it sounds too good to be true, but it really is a very simple process and can make a huge impact for our young men at Catholic High. Roman Basketball competes for District 12 Championship this weekend


This past Monday night, our Cahillites of the basketball court competed in their third straight Philadelphia Catholic League Championship game at the historic Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, the Cahillites did not come out on top, however the Roman legion is proud of the season they have had and it is a season that is not over! The team will compete for the District 12 6A Championship against Simon Gratz at 1:00 PM on Saturday February 29 at Abraham Lincoln High School, 3201 Ryan Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19136. Tickets at $10. Let's pack the gym in support of our guys as they look to make a deep run for a State Championship.

Beloved: Children of the Holocaust
First public art exhibit in the Howard Center for the Arts

Last week, Roman welcomed artist Mary Burkett for an opening reception of Beloved: Children of the Holocaust at the Howard Center of the Arts. The exhibition, which is on display until March 4, is a collection of 27 drawings depicting the beauty and lost innocence of children who were victims of Nazi persecution. The exhibition is presented in partnership with Rodeph Shalom Synagogue.

Roman welcomed over 50 guests for the first public art exhibit at the Howard Center for the Arts, which opened in September 2018. It was a powerful and moving night for all in attendance. The next day, Mary Burkett spoke to various classes of Roman students about her art work, the stories of the children, and the evils of hatred and division.

Mary Burkett’s journey as an artist is an unconventional one. In 2017, Mary began sketching five-year-old Hersch Goldberg, a little boy who died in Auschwitz. With no formal artistic training, the sketch project became a calling. Over the course of seven months, Mary researched and drew 26 more children lost to Holocaust as a way of honoring their lives.
