Welcome to the 11th Edition of our Mekong Tourism e-Newsletter

... and welcome to our first weekly update!

The MTCO is hard at work enhancing our award-winning via a community of proactive travel storytellers and tourism experts, a library of important and interesting resources, a showcase of responsible tourism experiences, a directory of multi-country journeys and river cruises, and a collection of stories about tourism’s impact on people in the GMS.

In order to deliver you more timely news, information, and resources, we are trialing this more compact, more frequent news format. We hope you find it timely and useful. Please click the links to access the full stories or library resources presented.

Responsible Tourism
This week I have been in Seoul, Korea (ROK), attending the Global Sustainable Tourism Conference. During a panel on "Marketing Sustainable Tourism" on Thursday (October 6), I talked about Mekong Tourism's much-admired industry engagement strategy and invited expressions of interest in the redevelopment of the Mekong Responsible Tourism Guide.

We are in the process of shortlisting the first batch of organisations to feature in the relaunch of the Guide. And we are establishing an advisory group to vet them. Our Mekong Responsible Tourism Advisory Group is yet another way you can engage with MTCO. If you have expertise and experience in responsible tourism and you would like to be a part of the group, please let me know.

Sustainable Partnerships
We are looking for potential funding partners for our core projects, including the Mekong Responsible Tourism Guide, the Mekong Tourism Stories project (curating human impact stories in collaboration with UNWTO), and our new #MekongMoments campaign.

As always, I look forward to your feedback and collaborating with you in the achievement of our collective goals!

Offenders on the Move in Travel & Tourism

Despite 20 years of efforts, the sexual exploitation of children in travel & tourism (SECTT) has expanded across the globe and out-paced every attempt to respond at the international and national level, according to ECPAT. The results of the first comprehensive global study on SECTT "confirm that no region is untouched by this crime and no country is ‘immune’".
