We went to visit our Chinese GMS member provinces, Yunnan and Guangxi - one for a sustainable tourism development project in Guilin, as well as for Mekong Tourism Forum planning meetings in Kunming.

Hosted in Dali and Xizhou in beautiful Yunnan from May 28-29, 2019, this year's Mekong Tourism Forum again innovative with a new concept to drive inclusive tourism and to promote sustainability. This year’s Mekong Tourism Forum is hosted in Dali and Xizhou in Yunnan (PRC) integrating the conference with learning experiences to connect culture and tourism and drive inclusive growth.


Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An are becoming Vietnam’s tourist hotspots and are among the most affordable in the world for backpackers.

The cities are high on the top 10 list of cheapest places for travel in the 2019 Backpacker Index by Price of Travel, the world’s largest database of travel costs.


Siem Reap was named the top tourist destination in Southeast Asia by Germany-based online travel platform YouDiscover.

The place is very popular because this is where Angkor Wat, a complex temple in Cambodia and one of the largest religious monuments in the world (162.6 hectares), is located.

2018 Experience Mekong Showcases – Ock Pop Tok

Ock Pop Tok, meaning “East Meets West” in Laos, was founded in the year 2000 by the two ladies Veomanee (Veo) Douangdala and Joanna (Jo) Smith. Ock Pop Tok was established on the principles of fair trade and sustainable business practices and was a pioneering social business and ethical fashion before these terms were even a part of Lao’s cultural lexicon.

Global Happiness and Well-Being Policy Report

The 2019 Global Happiness and Well-Being Policy Report is produced by the Global Happiness Council (GHC) and contains papers by expert working groups on happiness for good governance. This report provides evidence and policy recommendations on best practices to promote happiness and well-being.
