Why Not?

As 2019 came to a close, I began to look at the ministry and what had happened during the last year. There were highs and of course lows. Also, I started thinking about the next year and how we were being led by God to minister to our neighbors and community. God just gave me a phrase of “Why not?” Sometimes we limit our actions on paradigms or preconceived notions, and He was saying, “Why not?”

The idea of a second malnutrition clinic has been on our minds for over a year. In that time we’ve  prayed, sought input, and looked for sites that would accommodate not only the patient’s needs, but the ministry needs as well. We’ve contemplated many areas; however, the Lord keeps pointing us to Cite Soliel.

While we were in Port Salut, the end of last summer visiting a friend he said, “Why not Cite Soleil?” Citie Soliel is a very poor area that is controlled by gangs, so my first reaction was one of anxiety and perhaps a little fear. After we were back home in Port Au Prince, the idea of Cite Soleil continued to nag us. I reached out to a guy I knew in Cite Soleil, who had a growing ministry, in which children were being fed and also were hearing the gospel. Luken invited me to visit. As I got out of the car, what I saw was a community of people that just wanted the basic necessities for their families. The facilities exceeded our expectations and were more than ample for our needs. Things were beginning to fall into place.

Currently, we’ve been interviewing medical professionals. We have a faithful guy Kevin, who is gifted at building, that’s coming in a month to build tables and benches for the new clinic. We’ve  had people provide funds for supplies, so we’ve been able to get some of those purchased and teams are bringing those in the next few weeks. You know God is moving when he brings things into place and you’re not having to force them.  We’re very close to wanting to put a start date on the clinic; a few more things need to take place, but know that God is continuing to move and put all the pieces of this puzzle together. ~ Troy

This new Youth Small Group has started off with a BANG! We’re blown away at what God has done. Our vision was to provide a safe FUN place for this youth age to build relationships and to disciple them. Each week we have some free time with food, games and fellowship and then we transition to a time of worship and teaching. We’re very excited to see what God does in shaping these young minds as we try to build relationships with them and guide them. Troy is walking through the book of John during our time of dicipleship. Please keep this Youth Small Group in your prayers while we try to invest in the future of Haiti!

The Malnutrition program continues to successfully help malnourished children. It’s incredible to watch a child come in the first day and visually see the weight that malnutrition has played on their frail bodies. You can even see their desperation in their demeanor. This here is Wisselene who is 3 years old. Her grandmother takes care of her and she has special needs. It typically takes our special needs longer to gain weight than our typical 12 week program. She originally came to us at almost 15 lbs. She has gained almost 3.5 pounds. As you can see in these pictures, she is a much happier child! Her grandmother has attested to that as well. Wisselene also uses lavender donated by our Doterra partnership with Nicole Caldwell and her grandmother says it calms her anxiety. Recently, I became concerned about her grandma carrying her because she travels from Cite Soliel to come to our clinic and Wisselene has gained quite a bit of weight and she is long and awkward for her grandma to carry. So I reached out to David Rose with To Give a Smile and they agreed to bring in for her a wagon to help the grandma transport her. When we asked the grandma would she use the wagon she was all smiles and a sigh of relief came over her. Doing ministry here takes a community!
