Traffic Changes at Otay Mesa Truck Route Begin February 15
The Chamber actively worked with the City on this project, and is pleased to see the progress made towards efficient cross-border commerce. The advances include temporary road closures and a designated empty container lane leading to the CBP export facility. At the same time, truck routes for Otay truck routes on the Mexico side are also taking place.

New Entry Requirement for Travelers Flying to Canada
Beginning next month, Canada is enforcing a new eTA policy for visa-exempt foreign nationals that are flying to the country. United States citizens and travelers with a valid visa are exempt from the new rule.

Rebuild San Diego Moves Forward in City Council
Chamber VP Chanelle Hawken testified in support of Councilmember Mark Kersey's Rebuild San Diego infrastructure financing proposal Tuesday. The San Diego City Council voted to have the City Attorney draft ballot language before the March deadline.
 
New Rental Car Center at San Diego Airport
Last month, a new 2 million square-foot rental car facility at the San Diego International Airport opened its doors to the public. The facility, which will house more than 5,000 cars and provide 16 alternative-fuel shuttles for passengers, is expected to significantly reduce congestion on North Harbor Drive.
 
$380M Secured For California Earned Income Tax Credit
Chamber staff participated in a press conference last week on California's Earned Income Tax Credit. The tax credit is an effort led by Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and Assemblymember Shirley Weber, who secured nearly $400 million for California's working families and individuals.

All employees earning less than $50,000 per year are likely to be eligible for both a state and federal credit. 
 
Governor Brown Presents 2016 Budget
Last month, Governor Brown presented a $170 billion budget proposal for 2016. The proposal includes a modest expansion of social services, liberal allocations for one-time expenses, and a $2-billion payment to the state's rainy day fund.
 
Charitable IRA Rollover Now Permanent
As part of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act that was signed into law last month, the IRA charitable rollover, which allows individuals 70 1/2 and older to transfer up to $100,000 to charities using their IRAs, has been made permanent. 

The IRA rollover was a key item of the Chamber's delegation trip to Washington, and represents a win for private universities and non-profit organizations alike.
