The Seed

Each and every thought can be likened to that of a tiny seed and our minds the most fertile soil. The seeds, or thoughts, that we give extra care and attention to develop more rapidly. When we give too much of our attention to our flaws, our doubts, and our fears, these undesirable weeds sprout up around our seeds of positivity, bravery, beauty, and courage. They may go unnoticed for some time. Eventually, if the negative weeds aren't plucked, they will begin to choke out our flowers.

The Flower

Weeding out negative thoughts, words, actions, and habits is a daily practice. From the moment you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, your mind is active and formulating thoughts. What you think becomes what you speak, and what you speak now exists--it has bloomed. "I'm so fat, I'm so ugly, I'm not good enough." What could have been a beautiful flower, has been choked out by a menacing weed. Our words are so powerful and yet we throw them around so loosely. What was once just a passing thought has now taken on a life of it's own as you gave it breath.

So where do we start?

Step 1. Tilling the Soil

To create a fertile mind for positive growth, we must first till the soil. Our minds sometimes have a mind of their own, and it's not always easy to block or avoid negative thoughts. We are all tempted to go to a negative place, but temptation itself is not a sin. Temptation is a part of being human, but how we respond to the negative chatter is what really matters. Let's make a vow right now, to start with freshly tilled soil--a new mindset.

Step 2. Sort Your Seeds and Map Out Your Garden

Now that we've got a clean slate, it's time to get organized before planting our positive seeds. The weeds won't wait; the winds will begin to blow them right onto our fertile soil. Acknowledge and observe. Imagine yourself on a busy street with cars passing by left and right, and you're trying to dodge them without getting hit. It's as simple as taking a step back to the curb, and having a seat on the bench. From here you have a clear view of the traffic--your thoughts and emotions--both good and bad. Awareness. 

Step 3. Pull Weeds and Plant Seeds

Once we have acknowledged our setbacks, we can work on replacing the negative with the positive. When we pluck a bad thought, we're left with a void. It can be easy to allow another negative thought to fill it up, and it's our job to be proactive and plant a flower in its place--a positive thought. After a bit of gardening, our minds will become abundant with flowers of positivity!

Step 4: Nurture Your Flowers    

Just like all good habits, if we allow them to sit idle, we begin to regress, falling back into old patterns that don't serve us. Not only do we need to pluck weeds daily, but we need to fervently water our flowers so they can continue to grow and flourish. We can fertilize our garden by being always conscious of our mindset and the language we choose. Think positive thoughts, speak positive statements. A flower blooms!

The Tree of Life


The mustard seed is tiny, yet it becomes one of the largest trees. In the same way, our thoughts begin small, but have the power to become great!
