Irish Men's Shed Association Handbook

The Irish Men’s Shed Association are pleased to present its first official handbook. It is the result of learning from the hundreds of Men’s Sheds in Ireland and elsewhere.

The aim of the Handbook is to help you to work well together in the development and running of your Shed.  The Handbook is currently being launched in Nationally and so far has been greatly received.

A copy of the Handbook is available to all Registered Sheds with the Irish Men’s Sheds Association. To date we have held 13 regional meetings were we launched the handbook, a big thank you to our team of advocates who assisted in orgnaising these events.  The feedback has been very positive from all our sheds.  Further feedback is always needed as we aim to continue to provide the supports and resources that will assist in running your shed.

If you are registered and are yet to receive your copy of the Handbook or require further information, please contact the IMSA office on 01 8916150.

Fisherman's Friend Competition

Our recent competition in association with Fisherman’s Friend Ireland proved to be a huge success.  The competition was open to all Men's Sheds in Ireland and each shed who entered were asked to create a visual piece of work – using the basis of wood -  which symbolises ‘your community’ and best depicts what ‘your community means to you'.

The final judging event took place in the Maritime Museum, Dunlaoghaire.  25 sheds from the original 50 entries were there on the day and we had guest judges Brent Pope, Martin Stimson CEO of Fisherman’s Friends and Marcus Connaughton, Presenter, Seascapes on RTE Radio1.

Well done to all the sheds who entered and Congratulations to the winning Shed's

Roscrea Men’s Shed

The Roscrea Men’s Shed footpath cleaning program recommenced in the town earlier this year.    When initially started in late Autumn 2015, the program proved to be a huge success and very much welcomed by the people of our great little town, now the objective is to not just clean the footpaths of the debris of modern urban living, but to instill in the population a sense of pride and wellbeing, this can be achieved through our various commitments and interactions with the many groups involved in making Roscrea and environs a beacon of hope in the Midlands.

Many may feel this is unattainable and even foolhardy, yet with all the programs we as volunteer’s engage in, this one program is a highly visible instance of such a worthwhile goal. A short time into the footpath cleaning a locally owned business ( Bernie’s Supervalu), purchased new hi-viz weather hardy jackets for our members, this totaled into the hundreds of euro, thus enabling our members to work in weather less favorable.

The next step with this program is the much anticipated inter cooperation between ourselves and Roscrea Tidy Towns to better develop and enhance the towns
Fortunes in the National competition.  We hope to see more of the community join in and are always happy to stop for a chat and answer any questions people may have about the Shed and our activities, which are all voluntary.
