From the National Director…

How to use your NAWO membership to build social capital - Margaret Heffernan's TED Talk, 'Why it's time to forget the pecking order at work' is 10 very worthwhile viewing minutes.  Is your organisation or team falling into the "superchicken" conundrum? Are you focused on STARs to the detriment of outstanding collaboration? The most successful teams and organisations invest in their 'social capital'. What is social capital? People's knowledge of one another and connectedness to one another. Providing people with the environment (time, resources and encouragement) to develop relationships with one another drives collaborative thinking which delivers results. Your NAWO membership is an exceptional opportunity for "collective restoration" - to build social capital. To listen, discuss and engage in a way that we do not have time for in our average, hectic day in the workplace. I strongly encourage each and every one of you to bring or encourage your whole team to attend a NAWO event or professional development program (men and women). You will take away so much more than the content of the event - you will have built social capital. You will engage in dialogue on topics that you may never otherwise have, connecting with your colleagues in ways that you may never have done - in the car on the way to the event, the next day over coffee chatting about the event... endless opportunities are borne. If you take up my challenge I would love to hear your feedback!

inspiring knowledge…

'Resilience'. Buzz word... or game changer?
NAWO has a new offering in its suite of Professional Development Programs for 2016 – ‘Practical Resilience’.

But just what is resilience?

According to the Encarta Online Dictionary, resilience is:

Elasticity - the ability of matter to spring back quickly into shape after being bent, stretched, or deformed

Whether at home or at work, we all know that feeling!

Quite simply, resilience is the ability, and willingness, to get on with being who you are and doing what you do best.

inspiring women…

Claudine Ogilvie is familiar with pushing the boundaries. She found a like-minded ally in Ridley CEO, Tim Hart.

Training with the Australian Institute of Sport as an Olympic Sailing hopeful, Claudine has learnt a lot about pushing her personal and psychological boundaries. So when she was offered the position of CIO with Ridley Corporation, she knew her skills were a great match for the position and didn’t hesitate to take it on – despite the fact that her skills had been honed in strategy, sales operations and marketing roles.

sweet beginnings…

Although the organisation is new to NAWO, Linfox has not wasted time ‘testing the waters’. With CEO Annette Carey taking on the role of NAWO Ambassador and Linfox joining as a Gold Corporate Member in 2016, the organisation celebrated with a NAWO launch event in May.
