Help Oregon Wildfire Victims

This week I learned that air quality index (AQI) numbers above 500 are "beyond scale" and "unreliable"! So it's unclear exactly what it meant when our nearest measurement site went over 700 on Sunday night. But anything above 300 is considered "hazardous," so... not good. 😳

We've been staying indoors and running our HEPA filters continuously, and the good news is our one asthmatic cat is doing much better than he did with the wildfire smoke in 2018—no coughing or anything, knock on wood. Our hearts go out to those on the west coast who have evacuated, lost their houses, or worse.

Everyone around here is hoping for rain later this week, but long-term, we really need to do something about global catastrophic climate change, y'all. I know it's depressing and complicated and nobody likes talking about it, but this ain't Sea World, it's as real as it gets, and it's way past time for all of us to put on our big-boy pants and actually do something to fix it.

Visit Project Drawdown for a good overview of possible solutions. If you want to dig into the science, read the reports by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). And if you're in the US, call your Congressional representative.

Seriously, folks: all those science fiction dystopias were supposed to be CAUTIONARY TALES, steering us AWAY from bad outcomes. Nobody WANTED to predict this future.
