So, yeah, next weekend is my birthday, and I know it's become a thing online to ask people to make donations to your favorite charity instead of sending a gift, but you know what? I'm not even going to ask you to do that, <<First Name>>. Instead, I'd like you to please consider getting yourself something that you wouldn't normally spend money on.

I mean it: splurge on some frivolous thing that will bring you happiness and make good memories. Buy a dessert, rent a movie, go do that escape room you've been wanting to try (and why not go by yourself? ultimate nerd flex!), whatever. I'd love to hear about it afterward, if you're in a sharing mood, but no worries if not. This isn't for me; it's for you.
