The Spirit Wear store is open until 11:59pm Friday, Sept. 13! Order T-shirts, hoodies, and jerseys at our spirit wear store. Note that we need 12 of any style for that order to complete. If we don't reach 12 items, we'll refund you. Spirit wear will be delivered to the school, and sent home with your child.

Thanks to your generous donations, PTA will provide a spirit wear T-shirt for every student in school. They can wear them on spirit wear Fridays, as well as on field trips to help teachers and chaperones keep track of them! They are scheduled to be delivered FridaySept. 13, and will be sent home with your child.

Do you travel along the 63rd Street corridor between Wornall and Troost? The 63rd Street Corridor Plan Team wants your feedback. Tell them how you use the corridor, what's working, and what needs improvement through this quick survey:

Join us Thursday, September 12, 4-8 pm, at the Brookside Panera for our first restaurant night fundraiser. When you order, present the flyer at the link below, and Panera will donate 20% of the cost of your meal to our PTA. Tell your friends and family!

Our annual Back-to-School BBQ will be Friday, September 20 at 6 pm. The BBQ gives families a chance to get to know one another, or catch up again after the summer. We provide the hot dogs and entertainment, families provide sides and desserts (each class will be assigned a category); and the school provides us tables, trays, cups, and use of all the facilities. We will need approximately 40 volunteers to help set up, grill, man (or woman) the food line, and wash dishes afterward. Sign up online here or on the PTA bulletin board by the back door. Check what your class is supposed to bring here. Download the flyer for easy reference:

Last year, every class sent home a Wednesday folder with students, which included a weekly “Principal’s Page,” information from the classroom teacher, and information from the PTA and other groups about upcoming events. Mr. Rhyne does not plan to send home weekly newsletters this year (in part to save paper), so teachers can now send home information as they see fit. So parents, check back packs everyday—not just Wednesdays! The PTA will occasionally send home paper flyers for our events, but we will also try to cut back on printing.  Look for these other means of communication throughout the year:

  • PTA bulletin board (outside of Rm 003 by the back door near the playground)—we will post a calendar, which will be updated monthly, as well as flyers for upcoming events
  • Flyers—we will still hang flyers and posters for events around the school.  When you walk by, snap a picture of it with your smart phone so you can always have the info handy.
  • Phone blasts—Mr Rhyne likes using the phone blast system. We will send important PTA info through him on that system as well.
  • PTA website—In the past, this site has been used primarily as a landing page for memberships, special spirit wear purchases, and donations. But we’re going to try to keep it updated with important event info this year as well.
  • PTA meetings—Attending meetings will be the best way to get the inside scoop on school happenings.
  • These PTA emails—Don’t worry, we won’t flood your inbox.  But we’ll try to get the most import stuff out this way.
  • Facebook parent page — This closed (and unofficial) Facebook group is open to all parents to discuss school and community issues, ask questions, and build community. You'll need to provide a child's teacher's name to join.
