Effective Parent Organization Focus Group: Did you know that only five KCPS schools have an active parent organization? The District Advisory Committee (DAC) is seeking feedback on effective parent organizations in the KCPS district. One the goals of DAC is to expand effective parent organizations to more schools in the district. In order to do that, they want to get input directly from the parents about their experiences with the Border Star PTA. The focus group will meet Tues., Oct. 30 at 4:15 p.m. at Border Star. Please register now HERE

It's Fall Fundraising Time! Help Border Star and the PTA by selling cookie dough, magazines, and gift items or by soliciting monetary donations! Your child should have received a fundraising packet with their Wednesday folders last week. If you didn't receive a packet or if you need extra packets or order forms, you can pick those up in the office. Turn in order forms to your child's teacher by November 5. Contact Kris with any questions. Make checks out to Border Star PTA or donate HERE

Fall Parade and Class Parties will be on Wed., Oct. 31. The parade begins at 1:30 pm. Students will change into costumes at school. No weapons or masks are allowed. Each classroom celebrates differently. If you have not yet received a communication about classroom parties, your teacher may still be in need of a room parent. If so, reach out and offer to help. The office is collecting donations of trick-or-treat items (candy, snacks, stickers, trinkets) for the parade.

The Unparty is an alternative to classroom celebrations for children who may not celebrate holidays. Students or parents need to inform their teacher(s) if they would rather attend the Unparty. The Unparty is in the library, where Ms. Parker will have activities planned.

Principal's Coffee is Nov. 6: These are informal meetings hosted by Principal White on the first Tuesday of the month at 8:30 am in the teacher's lounge. This is an opportunity for parents to hear about school news and ask questions.

School Pictures are Nov. 6! Order forms went home in the Wednesday folder, but both class and individual pictures can be ordered online, through Lifetouch.  Students are not required to wear uniforms on picture day. Students may dress up or dress down.

Box Tops for Education: We are collecting box tops! Please turn them into your teachers by next Tues. as the collection date is Oct. 30. The class with the most box tops will get brownies! Funds collected this year will support our sixth graders' trip to New York City for Montessori Model United Nations.

Open Gym Party: Join us for a fun afternoon on Sat. Nov. 10, from 3-5 p.m., at Edge Gymnastics, in Riverside, MO! Play is supervised by Edge staff and parents can join in, hang out, or drop-off children over 5 years old. Admission is $5/child. Children 2 and under play for free.

Yearbook Photos Needed: Take lots of photos this year and share them with our team by downloading the Balfour Image Share app (project code 925067) or email pics HERE.

Parent Involvement Matters

Thanks to all of our amazing parents who helped out at various events the last couple of weeks! MMUN had a successful bake sale, last week. The fall harvest was this week. It always an important time of teaching students where our food comes from. Last but not least, LINC's Fall Festival was a blast. Many parents spent their afternoon painting faces, grilling hot dogs, leading games and more. We appreciate all that you do to make our school so special!

Our next PTA meeting on Thurs., Nov. 8. Dinner and childcare (ages 3 and up) are provided. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6 pm. Please RSVP HERE! PTA meetings are open to the entire school body. In an effort to decrease waste, we encourage families to bring their own dishes and napkins.
