Termly News from Development and the Farleigh Society

A Note on Autumn

Hopefully, the autumn term has now settled for you and I would like to extend a warm welcome to new Farleigh parents joining us for 2016. This newsletter has a rather melodious sound to it as we focus on our stunning #NewMusicSchool, due to be completed at the end of the year.

As part of the project, we are offering you the chance to sponsor a seat in our new concert space. There is also the opportunity to name a flagstone, or sponsor a practice room or teaching / performance space, enabling everyone in the Farleigh community to become a part of the fabric of the school for many years to come.

Eleanor Marsden (Director of Development) & Diana Nelson (Farleigh Society Secretary)
Drinks and canapés with old friends! This is the first get-together for any parents who no longer have children at the school. Whatever your vintage, come along and enjoy a good chat!

The Leavers' Gift of 2016

Huge thanks to all those who contributed to the Leavers' Gift from the Year 8s who left in 2016. In total, £5,136.25 has been raised to install a trim trail similar to the one above, in particular for use by the older children. The Heads of Sport and of Outdoor Learning are now consulting on the purchase of the equipment, following input from the Year 7s and Year 8s, and more information will follow once the trail is in place.

Many thanks again to all those that contributed.

It was fantastic to see almost 100 alumni turn up to The Phene pub in Chelsea on 16th September for an evening of catching up and socialising. Fr Simon and Gail, Mr Kennard, Mrs Spooner and Mrs Watts were just some of the staff who attended and were delighted to see so many familiar faces.

Photographs are now online at the alumni photo website; you can also share your pictures with us on Facebook or tweet them to @FarleighSchool.
#NewMusicSchool

The new Music School will have 12 practice rooms, a 'rock' room, a recording studio, classroom and performance space seating 120, as well as offices and stores. Almost 400 music lessons are taught per week at Farleigh, so the new spaces will be an integral part of the school and used by almost every single pupil.

We are inviting sponsorship of these rooms in return for possible naming rights of the different spaces. To find out more, please contact our Development Director, Eleanor.  Gifts can be made over time and donated tax-efficiently if you are a UK tax-payer.

Alumni Footballers' Record Attempt!

From Wednesday 26th - Saturday 29th October, one woman and 15 men are aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest five-a-side game of football in aid of Football Without Borders. The challenge will take place in Balham and involves Farleigh past pupils including Tom Farmer, 2004; Theo Strong, 2004; Matt Valenzia, 2004; Nick Valenzia, 2006 and Magnus Strong, 2007. If you would like to sponsor them, please visit their challenge page.

Did you know that last year, through the generosity of parents, Farleigh School was able to donate over £2,500 to the RNCF. This national charity works to provide stable educational environments for vulnerable children. Thank you to our parents for their on-going support.

Mr Sibbons' Book...

...Or rather, our Head of History, Mr Sibbons' father's book! Col. Mike Sibbons has published a book entitled "From the Archives" - with all profits from its sale going to two military charities - SSAFA and the REME Benevolent Fund.

To find out more, visit the shop of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

A pair of goal posts have been donated in memory of past pupil Rory McDonagh ('02). The goals will be appreciated by many future Farleigh children and commemorate the game which Rory loved so much.

Paving the Way for Music
#NewMusicSchool

The Music School is coming on apace! It is really exciting to think that we will soon have this brand new facility up and running - estimated completion is the end of November.

We are offering opportunities to parents past and present, alumni, grandparents and friends to make your mark on this landmark project and to recognise your own or your child's / family's time at Farleigh. If you would like to find out about naming a flagstone (£150) or seat (£250) in the new Music School, or to sponsor a space, please see the brochure and download a gift form and scan or return it to the school's Development Office.

Jane Means: The Craft of Wrapping

We are really lucky to be welcoming Jane Means as our Autumn Farleigh Tree headliner on Friday 18th November 2016.

An author, presenter and designer, Jane has her own gift-wrapping training academy, running workshops in the UK and Singapore. Known as the ‘Gift Wrap Guru', she trains staff for Harrods, has appeared live in the windows of Liberty London, wrapped for the Queen and appeared on TV shows including This Morning and The Great British Sewing Bee.

Come and see Jane demonstrate her tricks of the trade and solve your trickiest wrapping dilemmas! Booking is now open online.

Farleigh's Second Full Bursary Award

We are delighted to announce that another new pupil joined us in September, thanks to our partnership with SpringBoard.  We believe that time at Farleigh can give every child the chance to blossom in a safe and nurturing environment.

We are enormously grateful to the donors who have made this possible.

We hope to start digitising elements of the archive and would love to hear your memories and anecdotes about your time at Farleigh, from whatever era.
