The September 22-23 school year is approaching and we are almost ready to start registration for Preschool for the Arts and Homeschool Unlimited. First we want to communicate what changes and improvements will be made and also what will be staying the same.

What’s staying the same…

1. The curriculum will stay the same - everyone really likes The Good and the Beautiful. Teachers have the option to also bring supplemental resources in to meet the needs of each student.

2. Upper grades will still have academics Monday- Thursday and then Spanish, music and art on Friday.  This schedule has served us well the last 5 years.

3. 1st grade stays the same focusing on Math and reading foundations. We already operate on the level system for K & 1st grade. They are in their own suites with 3 different classes, 3 different levels and 3 different (and extraordinary) teachers!

4. PreK will stay the same, just pure awesomeness. We are going to expand to offer another class for 4 year olds.

What’s changing…

1. In September, all students 1st and up will receive textbooks and workbooks for the school year. NO MORE WORKSHEETS! YAY! Families will order theses supplies directly through Kelly Gish - our curriculum coordinator and current 4th grade teacher. She is a veteran homeschool mother of 5 and is extremely experienced and organized. Ordering instructions will come out later this spring but the books and costs are below. Be sure to scroll down. Stay tuned for details.

2. All students will register online. We are almost ready to launch our new platform so stay tuned. Your child’s registration form and school fee must be sent simultaneously. If you send one or the other, your child is not registered and we cannot hold spots. Stay tuned, registration will start very soon!

3. We are lengthening the school day.

Preschool for the Arts/Advanced PreK 9:00 am -12:15.

Kindergarten 9:15 am - 12:30.

1st & up 9:00-12:30

This increase in instructional times translates (in theory) to less homework and more material covered. It raises the quality and quantity of your child’s education. We will adjust Kid’s Club and all the afternoon extracurricular activities accordingly.

4. We will be moving to levels next year instead of grades for 2nd and up. (K & 1st are already operating on the level system). This means students will be changing classes and rotating throughout the day. Each student will attend the level classroom for each different subject. Here is how it will work: If your child tests at a level 2 English, they will attend the level 2 English class during the English hour. If your child is tests at a level 3 Math, they will attend the level 3 math class during the math hour. Every teacher will be teaching a different level of the same subject simultaneously.  This way a child excelling in a subject can move ahead to the next level. A child testing on different levels in different subjects will be able to take those exact classes and not be stuck taking 3rd grade math, 3rd grade English etc. We are reconfiguring the rooms to make changing classes easy and efficient. The last hour of the day will be Levels 2 & 3 doing History together and Levels 4 & 5 doing Science together. Then the following week we rotate. This is going to be AWESOME! End of year testing will still be made available to confirm advancement and/or to make transitioning into public or private school easy.

5. Tuition for 1st & up will be $550 starting in September to cover the cost of the longer school day (we are adding 30 minutes).

6. Tuition for Kindergarten will be $510 starting in September to cover the cost of the longer school day (we are adding 15 minutes).

7. There will be a $150 supply fee per student in K and up which covers the daily operating cost of the classrooms.

8. Registration for September extracurricular classes will open mid summer.

9. We are buying all 17 science units of The Good and the Beautiful AND the accompanying optional add on for all classes to use, such as read aloud a, games, and experiments.

10. Kids Club will still be available. We have your family’s best interest at heart. We also might be able to offer early bird drop off (7:30 AM) and extra late pick up (5:00 PM) if there is enough interest and we have staffing.

11. The quality of educational opportunity next year will be unlimited because of physical textbooks and workbooks, the longer school day and the utilization of curriculum enhancements. If your child wants to work ahead, they can. If your child needs extra help and a slower pace, they can take the time they need.

Odds & ends...

Kelly Gish has stepped into the role of Curriculum Coordinator. She will be in charge of ordering, implementing, advising, supporting the teachers and staying on top of all the new products the Good and the Beautiful releases. She is organized, experienced. successful and knows TGTB curriculum inside and out. Kelly is also our current 4th grade teacher. She will also be teaching am and pm classes next year.

Grades 2-5 new students will be tested upon enrollment then sorted into proper level of LA, Math and Handwriting
-Returning students will advance to the next level. They will not need to be tested.

1-5 will drop off and pick up on King’s Grant Rd. Pre-k and K will pick up and drop off in the parking lot

Preschool for the Arts and Advanced Preschool for the Arts tuition rates will be posted shortly. Expect only a few dollars increase.

Kelly Gish will teach grades 6-8 in the afternoon 1:00 - 4:00 September 22-23 school year

Direct from Kelly:
Language Arts work is mostly independent
Math -I wrote to TGTB and asked about level 6 and 7. On the website it says level 6 will be out before the fall of next year. Hopefully level 7 will be as well but if not the other options for math is Math U See (where a teacher teaches you the lesson over the computer and then you have worksheets to practice lesson) or Teaching textbooks (where and instructor teaches you the lesson over the computer and you do the work on the computer and the computer grades it for you) If I have a choice, I would choose Teaching Textbooks for students. But either way we go for 7th and 8th grade the child would need to bring a Chromebook or laptop or tablet  with headphones to school for lessons in math each day. For 6-8 we would do History and Sciece together.

I will be bringing my daughter Alayah (14) to school and having her join in the class room for her 9th grade year. She will be using TGTB for LA, Teaching textbooks for Math and the joining us for Science and History. I have never done high school before so I am figuring it out as I go along. I am willing to let parents add their 9th grader to the class but they need to be understanding that I am figuring it out as I go and adjust throughout the year when needed. So if other 9th graders are willing to roll with that they can join us.

In conclusion
We are making these changes to provide each child the best education possible and unlimited opportunities to soar. Our goal is to constantly improve and find new ways to add excellence. Thank you for choosing to be a part of Homeschool Unlimited!
