Weekly Notes January 14, 2021

Dear Friends;
This past Sunday we had our first gathered worship at 8:30 a.m. in over 10 months.  What a joy it was to be with you and see your (masked) faces.  Worship looks different, certainly, but there is a spirit there that was wonderful to behold.  As you are ready, please join us at 8:30 a.m., or online at 10:00 a.m. as we worship together and make our way forward.  I remind you of the guidelines that we are following for gathered worship, and appreciate so much your willingness to comply:
1.            masks that cover nose and mouth are required while you are on campus.
2.            social distancing of 6’ is to be maintained while you are on our campus; this applies to all people who are not members of your household.  Even if you regularly meet with small pod groups, I would ask that on campus you retain this social distancing.
3.            there will be no congregational singing at this time
4.            hand sanitizer stations are available at both entries for your use
5.            offering will be received via wooden boxes that are placed in both narthex areas
6.            dismissal from the service will be by section as needed as to maintain social distancing

We continue to pray that the vaccine distribution in our community and nation will go smoothly and be an effective way for us to gather safely again as more and more receive the vaccine.

PIVOT seems to be a good guiding word for us lately - and this week I made the decision to PIVOT the Wednesday night class offering away from The Courageous Church to a discussion of Bishop Michael Curry's book "Love is the Way."  We are starting THIS WEEK with chapters 1-3 (which are quite short) and I want to invite you to sign up and participate with us via ZOOM.  You will find Bishop Curry's writing style to be engaging and challenging all at the same time, and I would love to have you in class with us!  You can sign up below.

As we face this next week in our country - a week of change and transition, would you be in intentional prayer?  Pray for peace and a move away from violence in all forms.  Focus on doing good right where you are.  What beauty can you create?  What words of encouragement can you share?  What gesture of peace can you make?  This is our call as people of faith.  Let's engage in a purposeful way this week - and always.
I look forward to being with you online; or in person this week in worship.  We are focusing on our natural world.  Take some time and get outside - reconnect with God's gift of creation.
God is with us,

Join us as we gather for worship in our sanctuary at 8:30 a.m. (see notes above).

Online worship at at 10:00am on either Facebook, our church website, or YouTube as we learn how we might put feet to our faith.

GROW materials for this week can be found here.

Q.  What is Amplify Media?

A.  Amplify Media is a streaming service that gives churches unlimited streaming video access to diverse resources from a Wesleyan perspective that encourage deeper discipleship and equip churches to pursue their mission with greater impact.

Q.  Why am I hearing about this?

A.  Saint Paul’s UMC has purchased a monthly subscription to Amplify, and so it is now available to all of our small groups, Sunday school classes, children and youth ministries, as well as to individuals.  It’s like having a complete library of Christian education videos at your fingertips!

Q.  How do I use it?

A.  Just go to, create a church member account and use congregation access code:

From there you can search by topic or name and watch videos!  If you are doing a study with a small group, you can watch the videos in person from a smart TV, or stream the videos using screen share in a Zoom meeting, or watch them individually on any device!  You may still want to purchase leader guides, but the videos are all free.  We hope that this resource will be a blessing to you and to our study groups both on and off campus.

Join us as we read and encourage one another to live out this beautiful and engaging (and challenging) call to Christ-like love.  This week, we will gather via ZOOM and discuss chapters 1-3.  Please sign up below so that you can receive the ZOOM link for the class.

ENTER THE STORY - Daily Bible Reading 2021

Our Daily Bible Reading 2021 will take us through 52 of the greatest stories in scripture - stories that will remind us of who God is; who we are; and who we are called to be.  I invite you to enter the story - to dig deep below the surface of the narrative and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what meaning might be hidden there.  I will offer my reflections only as a starting point.  The story belongs to all of us!

Our 2021 Daily Bible Reading is available by email every day.  If you would like to receive these daily mailings and are not currently subscribed, you may do so by clicking the link below.
