A Message from Pastor Kandace

August 8, 2019
Dear Friends;

This week, if you have been around the church in the evenings, you will have witnessed our youth gathering together for the fun and fellowship of Youth Week.  This week of connecting with one another as the summer ends and the school year begins culminates with Youth Sunday, where our young people lead us in worship.  They have chosen the theme of UNITY and Margot Almond will be sharing the message.  I am looking forward to all that they bring to the service around this particularly important theme.  Thanks to all who helped this week by offering time to volunteer and help with setting up different activities.  I hope that you will be in worship Sunday to support, encourage and affirm our youth.

With this being the final Sunday before school begins, it is also the Sunday that we will have a BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS as we head back to school.  We will offer a special prayer for teachers as well – because we are aware of all that you do for your students!  Join us – and invite a friend or neighbor to join you in worship.  This Sunday is the final of our ONE SERVICE SUNDAY SUMMER SCHEDULE, and on August 18 we will return to our 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship schedule.

Have you signed up for We are the Church TOGETHER class that will be held beginning September 4?  I want to encourage ALL to participate.  We will be learning about Christian friendship and the mission of the church – OUR CHURCH; THIS CHURCH.  Please add your voice to the discussion!  Register here today!

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Betty Lou Rogers, a member of Saint Paul’s has written a selection of books for young adults and children.  She is having a book showing Saturday, August 17, in room 300 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Everyone is invited to come meet the author and purchase her books.

CROCODILE HUGS to everyone who baked sweet treats for Kate Sullivan teachers' first week back at school.  Our fifteen dozen cookies and brownies were met with smiles and enthusiastically devoured during a school faculty meeting.

CROCODILE KISSES to those who contributed items for our back-to-school collection for Kate Sullivan Elementary, our Partner for Excellence.  We collected 46 pairs of shorts and 67 pairs of underwear for use in the school clinic, and 36 bottles of hand sanitizer and 38 tubs of disinfectant wipes - all for classroom use.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Join us on Wednesday evenings, September 4 -25 for a four week study called We Are the Church TOGETHER.  This four week study is based on a book by Dr. Dana Robert and her inspiring presentation at our recent Annual Conference, The Book of John, Friendship, and Mission Together.  All members of the church are invited to this study and discussion as we continue to be the church TOGETHER.
on  At 6:15 p.m. in Sanders Hall for this study.
