May 23 2020: Proverbs 17:1

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet
than a house full of feasting, with strife.
Once again, a single verse from Proverbs holds incredible wisdom.  Here it is a domestic statement about what is truly important.  It is often the tangible that we emphasize (food, possessions, money) as important and often pursue those at the expense of what is far more valuable.  The image here in Proverb 17 is quite stark, but it does make me wonder - when have I been tempted to sacrifice peace and quiet for the sake of feasting?   How about you?  Are there seasons in your life when things like peace and stability took a back seat to ambition?  I am so grateful for the simple words of the Proverbs, that call us to self examination and confession, along with a resolve to deep our priorities aligned.
What about you?
What word?
What image?
What question?
