WEEKLY NOTES September 15, 2022

Greetings Saint Paul's Family and Friends!

Many of you have heard the news that Killearn UMC voted last Sunday to leave the UMC.  There will surely be others that choose to leave, for various reasons.  From our church gathering and discussion on August 31st, it is clear that the will of the body at Saint Paul's is to remain United Methodist.  We remain committed to the core tenants of our Christian faith as found in the creeds that we recite regularly in worship, in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, and in being a welcoming place for all to experience the love of God.

Through it all, of this, we are certain: The same God who promised to give “a crown of beauty instead of ashes, and the oil of joy instead of mourning (Isaiah 61:3),” is the same God who creates order out of chaos and invites us into a place of rest in the midst of the storm. Many of us are sitting with colleagues, family members, and friends who have been deeply affected by the recent disaffiliations. As pastors, our desire is that we will all work together - in cooperation with the Spirit - to provide an atmosphere of warmth, hospitality, and love to those who are in need of a safe place to land.

As we sort through our own perspectives and emotions, let us be intentional about focusing less on ourselves and more on others. Let us welcome new faces with joy. Let us be open and inviting. We encourage you to go out of your way to introduce yourselves to new people you see on Sunday morning.  Invite someone to come with you to Sunday School, or out to lunch afterward. Resist the temptation to disparage those who think differently – we are all trying to live faithfully. "Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it (1 Peter 4:8, MSG)."

With Gratitude,

~ Pastors Latricia & Becky

New Staff Announcement!

It is our joy to welcome Zac Prasse to the Saint Paul's family to serve as our new Director of Youth Ministry.  Zac will begin on October 3rd, and we could not be more thrilled to have him on the team.  If you would like to share a card of welcome, just drop it by the church office anytime.  We would love to have a stack of cards on his desk for his first day!  Please wish him a warm welcome when you see him on campus.

With excitement,
Your Pastors and SPRC

Greetings From Our New
Director of Youth Ministry

Hey Saint Paul’s Family!

My name is Zac Prasse and I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with our Youth here at Saint Paul's. I’m a lifelong resident of Tallahassee and I currently attend Florida State University as well as the Youth Ministry Institute. I have been working in Youth Ministry since 2019 at Warren Willis United Methodist Camp, as well as Killearn United Methodist Church since 2020.

Again, I am overjoyed to have been presented with the opportunity to serve our Youth, and look forward to meeting you all!

Sincerely,
Zac Prasse

New Member Information Session

Are you new and looking for more information about Saint Paul's?  Have you been attending a while and are thinking of joining?  Have you been attending for YEARS but never made the step of membership?  Join us in Sanders Hall on September 25th, during the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45am), to find out more!

Wednesday Night Dinners

We are restarting our regular Wednesday Night Dinners!  Ted Rokitowski has volunteered to be our chef through the end of the year while we work on the budget for 2023 and look toward hiring someone next year.  Our Kitchen Committee is getting things going and they are always looking for hands willing to help.

Below is a link where you can make your reservation.  We have modified our sign-ups so that you can make your reservation weekly, or for the entire month.  You may also RSVP on the attendance pads during worship.  Dinner is $7 for adults and $3 for children and you can pay at the door with cash or check, in the church office, or online when you make your reservation through the Weekly Notes.

September Menu:
9/21 - Meatloaf, Mac n'Cheese, and Green Beans
9/28 - Fish with Wild Rice and Vegetables
Our evening Bible Talk class will be moving to in-person, following Wednesday night dinner, from 6:30-7:30pm.  Youth programming and youth choir will also meet during that time, and we plan to offer more options in October, including a "Church 101" Class.  Nursery is available during all of our class times.

These dinners are a great way to get to know others in the church.  We plan to hold a quarterly church gathering like we did on the 31st where you can ask questions and where we will update you on the state of the church and upcoming goals and initiatives.  We also hope to host some fun family events. Hope to see you there!

Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Build

All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads, too many boys and girls go without a bed—or even a pillow—to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health. That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Saint Paul’s UMC comes in as we are co-sponsoring a 16-bunk bed build at Saint Paul’s on October 8, 2022.  Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and the build will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No carpentry skills are needed!

The money for materials has been raised and ordered.  Trained station leaders from Sleep in Heavenly Peace have volunteered.  The equipment is ready.  What we need are volunteers.  What we need is you, your family, and your friends to help us provide beds for 32 children in the Florida Panhandle.  We have a collection bin in the lobby of Sanders Hall for bedding donations (sheets, pillows, and blankets must be new).

Whether the children are in Panama City or Port St. Joe, Marianna or Tallahassee, Quincy or Monticello, we need to remove kids from the floor and provide them beds.

Thanks so much,
Anne Godbold and Jerry Roney

Peace & Justice Pilgrimage

Join us on pilgrimage to deepen our faith in Christ and stoke our desire to love one another.

The purpose of this journey is to engage the reality of systemic racism and injustice in our lives.  We will learn the history of white racial violence from the Antebellum South, through Reconstruction, to Jim Crow, and all the way to mass incarceration today.  We pray that on our journey we will all know better how to love our neighbor more fully on our path of discipleship.

We will depart Tallahassee at 8am on Friday, Nov 11th and return on the evening of Saturday, Nov 12th. The cost of this trip is $295-305 for single occupancy and $200-210 for double occupancy. The final number of participants may alter the price slightly, so we wanted to give a range for the moment. This includes your hotel room, 4 meals (Fri dinner not included), museum and memorial admission, and transportation costs.

For more information on the memorial and the museum, as well as FAQ's, please click this link https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/

There are only 70 spots available and they are filling up fast, so register early if you are planning to attend.

Wednesday night youth programming is back!  Eat dinner together from 5:30-6:00, games and gathering from 6:00-7:00pm, followed by youth choir until 7:45pm.

Also, in case you missed it up top... WE ARE GETTING A NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR!  We will welcome Zac Prasse to the Team starting on October 3rd.

Lake Ella Clean-Up

We invite you to join our Creation Care Team for the 2022 International Shore Clean Up on September 17th.  Our group will meet at Generations Park at 9 am where we will hand out supplies.  We should wrap up around 11:00 - in plenty of time for those who wish to attend our annual Charge Conference event at 11:30.  Thank you for being stewards of our community and keeping Lake Ella beautiful!

Charge Conference will be at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in the Burleigh Law Memorial Chapel.  This is the annual gathering of our church leadership and membership to establish the pastoral salaries and approve our governing board members for the upcoming year.  It is also an opportunity to meet our District Superintendent of the Northwest District.  All are invited to attend.

This year's meeting is being held earlier than usual, and so we are still in the process of discerning who will serve on Governing Board and Core Ministry Team in 2023.  If you believe that you or someone you know would be a good fit to serve in one of these vital leadership roles, please let us know by clicking below and filling out a brief interest form.  If you click the link, there is more information about serving on both Governing Board and the Core Ministry Team.
