WEEKLY NOTES January 26, 2023

Greetings Saint Paul's Friends and Family,

We are grateful and excited about all that continues to happen in the life of Saint Paul's. This past Sunday, we received ten new members into our church family (yaaayyy) and many have already gotten involved in the church in exciting and creative ways. And speaking of this past Sunday, our first Sunday evening contemporary worship experience is off to a phenomenal start!  With nearly seventy-five people present, we enjoyed a time of singing and sharing in an intergenerational space as we were all reminded of God's unconditional, overflowing, and grace-filled love for us.

THIS Sunday, January 29, we are looking forward to a service of healing and prayer. Knowing that God is a God of healing, of forgiveness, and of love, all are invited to bring our full selves to the altar. We expect God to speak to our hearts and allow us to experience the Spirit - individually and collectively - in the ways that we need it most. God is up to something incredible in us.

Lastly, if you want to learn more about the gifts God has given you and how to use them, be sure to sign up for Church 201:Spiritual Gifts (registration link in the weekly notes). It's not too late to join.

We LOVE being your pastors,

Pastor Latricia & Pastor Becky

SUNDAY DETAILS

This Sunday is January 29th, and we are concluding our series on healing with a special healing service where there will be an opportunity to be anointed with oil and prayed over.

Join us for worship at either 8:30 AM or 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary, with the Sunday School Hour between from 9:45-10:45 AM.  Classes are available for all ages on our campus.

We are moving toward live-streaming one of our worship services on Sunday morning.  Up until now we have been pre-recording our worship services during the week and posting the recording online on Sunday mornings.  During this in-between time, as we work toward live-streaming, we will be recording the live service and posting later in the day on Sunday.  Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

This Sunday is a 5th Sunday!

As 2023 provides a fresh start, we are excited to start off the new year with a 5th Sunday Offering. The 5th Sunday Offering began in 1906 as a way to raise funds to build an orphanage and continues to show the deep connection between the Children's Home and local churches around the state. The 5th Sunday Offering remains the backbone of all the support we do here at the Children's Home. Our goal again this year is $12.00 per year for each Church member, youth thru adults.  Thank you Saint Paul's for the noisy change and your generosity.

Rooted Annual Chili Cook-Off

Last chance to sign up and enter your chili in the annual Chili Cook-Off hosted by our Rooted Youth Group!  Come to Sanders Hall following the 11:00 service.  We encourage as much of the congregation to attend as possible.  All proceeds go toward the summer youth mission trip.  This is a very fun way to help ensure that our students get a mission trip experience that they will carry with them into their adult faith.  You do not need to prebuy tickets - money will be collected at the door (cash, check, or card).

Youth Ministry

Last week was big! We began new curriculum in Sunday School and had Youth on both Wednesday and Sunday. Sunday night went better than I could have imagined. We ate dinner together and played games in the youth room before coming up to Sanders Hall where we were greeted with a request for more chairs because we did not set up enough! The turnout was incredible, and the worship was better. Our youth worshipped alongside members of the congregation before hearing a message given by Pastor Latricia. Then they broke out into groups with some reflection questions to talk about the sermon. It was a very special night, I encourage all of you to attend next month if you are able.

Here's what we have going on this week:

Sunday, January 29th - Sunday School
Sunday School runs from 9:45 - 10:45. This week we will be setting up for the Chili Cook-off that begins at noon. Doughnuts will be provided!

Sunday, January 29th - Chili Cook-off
The Chili Cook-off is this Sunday after the 11 o'clock service! If your youth is able to come, please come help! The funds raised by this event will go straight back to the youth in the form of scholarships for the summer Mission Trip. If you have not signed up, but would like to bring chili to support the event, click the button below!

Update from our HOME Team

Our Internation Rescue Committee HOME Team have gone through their training and background checks, and they are nearly ready to provide support to a refugee family settling here in Tallahassee.  It looks like there is a family of five from Guatemala that will be arriving on January 31st.  They have three little ones ages 4, 2, and 1.  That means it’s time to gear up and gather all furnishings and supplies for their apartment.

Yvonne Brownlie is coordinating all donations, and we are using the Bridal Room (Room 328) as a staging area.  Items may be brought to the church office, but please coordinate with Yvonne before purchasing and donating items so we make sure we get what is needed.  Currently, we need cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items, as well as both twin-size bedding and crib bedding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  You can email Yvonne at ybrownlie60@yahoo.com or call her at (850) 284-4635.
