What's Happening at Saint Paul's
Children's Ministries
Care List

February 6, 2020
Dear Friends;

Last week in our bulletin we published the names of those who are serving on our Governing Board for 2020.  The Governing Board is the administrative arm of our leadership, and meets monthly on the fourth Monday of the month.  Governing Board meetings are open to the congregation, with the exception of those times when personnel issues are discussed, which by law, must remain confidential.  The next Governing Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 24, 2020 in Room 301.

The second arm of our leadership at Saint Paul’s is the Core Ministry Team.  This group is comprised of the lay leadership of all ministry programs and meets every other month on the second Monday.  Again, these meetings are open to the congregation.  The members of the Core Ministry Team and the ministries they represent will be listed in the center portion of the bulletin this week.

I do want to encourage you to put the Town Hall Meeting date on your calendar.  We will meet on Sunday, February 23, 2020 immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service in the sanctuary.  The Governing Board will be bringing you an important financial update for 2020 and beyond.  I anticipate that this meeting will be fairly short, but nonetheless important.  Following the meeting, we will plan to send out a bullet point email to the congregation summarizing the information shared.

This Sunday we continue our series on New Places for New People by looking at the sending out of the disciples and what that story has to say to the church today.  I am encouraged by your response to this series, and I invite you to dream about where God may be calling this church to open up new places for new people.

Pray for our women as they gather this weekend for the Women’s Retreat at Saint George Island.

I will see you on Sunday!

VISION 2020: PRAYER 2020
I know that using the theme word VISION may feel cliché given the year that we are in. That said, scripture is clear on the importance of vision in the life of both individual and community. I also believe that 2020 will be an important year in the life of this church, and in the larger denomination and we continue to explore who we are as a body of Christ.
Our strategic planning team is already engaging the good and hard work of reviewing and writing our strategic plan and many of you will be called upon for input into this process.
I want to encourage us to a simple prayer practice for this year.  Right now, before you have a chance to forget, take your cell phone and set an alarm to sound daily at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 in military time).  I have already set mine.
When that alarm sounds, will you take a moment and pray for the church?  You can use this prayer:

God, grant us a clear vision for Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church,
and for your larger church in the world.
Open our eyes to see, our ears to hear, our hearts to understand.
And by your grace, grant us courage to live into the vision that you set before us.
I do hope you will join me in this simple daily practice of prayer on behalf of the church.

Climate Justice Class
Climate impacts from extreme weather like massive hurricanes and fires are in the news and Greta Thunberg was just named Time's Person of the Year for her climate justice efforts. Join our Creation Care team as we learn how people all over the world are responding to the climate crisis, and how Christians are mobilizing to help those in harms way. You can register for this Wednesday evening class at

Friends and strangers class with each other over issues large and small. Coworkers have conflicts in the office.  Married couples fight over finances.  People demonize each other on social media.  Is there any hope for civil discourse?
The course will provide a strategy for having difficult conversations, helping us move from contentious debate to constructive dialogue. Using insights from Scripture and communication theology this class will provide practical ways to manage disagreements and resolve conflicts.
We can disagree without being disagreeable.  Find out how.
Class will meet Wednesday, January 29 - February 19 in room 326.  Please register for this class at the link under Breeze forms.
