May 18 2020: Proverbs 3:5-6
My child, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments;
2 for length of days and years of life
and abundant welfare they will give you.
3 Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good repute
in the sight of God and of people.

Do you ever bind anything around your neck? What about a necklace, perhaps a cross? It is not an uncommon thing to do; and most would say that they wear a cross to remind themselves of who they are in Christ. We do that with other jewelry as well - a special necklace, for example, with birthstones of our children (as if we needed reminding that we are a mother!)
Can I tell you a story? Just this weekend I was running errands - buying some patio furniture; it was loaded in my car, and I got home only to find it was broken. So, back I went to the store, more than a little perturbed, and not very patient. The process for fixing the problem was more involved than I wanted it to be, and I could feel myself become more and more...well, unpleasant. It was at that point that I realized I had a t-shirt on that connected me with the United Methodist Church, and it served as a reminder that I was, in that moment, being a poor witness for the love of Jesus Christ. It was humbling. I apologized for my impatience to the young man helping me - and the rest of the transaction went smoothly.
Had I not that reminder, that interaction could have gone much differently.
Sometimes, friends, we need to reminded that our lives are a witness to Jesus. I need it every single day. So, I am praying this week that God would write it on my heart, so that I don't have to rely on a tshirt next time!
What about you?
