WEEKLY NOTES January 19, 2023

Greetings Saint Paul's Friends and Family,

At Saint Paul's we Worship, Grow, Serve, Share, and Give with JOY.  We say this all the time.  We also make a huge commitment to foster these values and practices in our children and youth.  From undertaking the Making Room renovations that prioritized our children's ministry spaces, to making as many events intergenerational as we can, to investing in our staffing in these areas so that our programs can grow and thrive... it's not hard to see that we love and value our children and youth.

There are a few needs that we have RIGHT NOW where we need YOU in order to keep pouring into these young people and helping them to grow in their faith.

First, the chili cook-off is on January 29th.  We need more chili!  What does chili have to do with investing in our children and youth, you ask?  All the proceeds go toward the summer youth mission trip.  Participating in a youth mission trip helps teens build community, grow in their faith and compassion, and build within them the value of serving.  Making a pot of chili is a fun way to help let our youth know that you care about them and their spiritual development.

Second, our children's ministry needs Sunday School teachers.  Our children's ministry continues to grow, and they are creating a separate 2nd-3rd grade class, which has been much needed.  For right now, Bridget is teaching this class.  In order for her to connect with parents and oversee the program, we need other volunteers to step into this role.  Do you find teaching too intimidating?  Don't worry!  We will give you easy-to-follow curriculum and support.  Teaching a class is all about providing a loving presence so that children know that you care about them and their spiritual development.

There are lots of other ways to help.  Volunteer at a special event.  Be a part of a planning committee.  Provide snacks.  We know that where there is vision there is provision.  How is God leading you to care for the next generation of our church family?

Trusting in God to provide,
~ Pastor Latricia Scriven and Pastor Becky Rokitowski

P.S. We are starting a monthly Contemporary Worship Experience on Sunday evenings!  Join us THIS SUNDAY at 6:00pm in Sanders Hall.  All are welcome.

SUNDAY DETAILS

This Sunday is January 22nd, and we will continue our focus on healing.  We will be receiving new members in both worship services this Sunday!

Join us for worship at either 8:30 AM or 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary, with the Sunday School Hour between from 9:45-10:45 AM.  Classes are available for all ages on our campus.

We are moving toward live-streaming one of our worship services on Sunday morning.  Up until now we have been pre-recording our worship services during the week and posting the recording online on Sunday mornings.  During this in-between time, as we work toward live-streaming, we will be recording the live service and posting later in the day on Sunday.  Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

Rooted Annual Chili Cook-Off

Mark your calendars!  Rooted will be hosting the annual Chili Cook-Off in Sanders Hall following the 11:00 service.  We encourage as much of the congregation to attend as possible.  All proceeds go toward the summer youth mission trip.  This is a very fun way to help ensure that our students get a mission trip experience that they will carry with them into their adult faith.  To enter your chili in the cook-off simply sign up at the link below no later than January 25th.  Entering your chili is FREE, and the bragging rights are priceless!  You do not need to prebuy tickets to eat, money will be collected at the door (cash, check, or card).

Youth Ministry

We had an awesome last week here at Rooted! Youth Choir resumed, Youth was full of fun, and Sunday School was rich with discussion. We had a successful lock-in! We went to American Escape Rooms and had both groups of students break out of their rooms in time. We were led into our escape rooms by Rooted alumnus Nathan Cushard, who just so happened to be working Friday night! The rest of the night was full of fun, fellowship, and a late night devotion provided by our very own Trey McNabb. I sincerely apologize to parents and families that had to deal with potentially irritable, sleep deprived youth on Saturday! I promise it was worth it!

Just a reminder to please continue spreading the word that there is NO $35 entry fee for those providing chili in the Chili Cook Off!

Sunday, January 22nd - Sunday School
Sunday School runs from 9:45 - 10:45. We are kicking off our new curriculum! This week, your students will be looking at the anointing of David from 1 Samuel and discussing how we can begin to identify traits in people around us that reflect the image of God. Doughnuts will be provided!

Sunday, January 22nd 5-7pm - Sunday Night Youth
5:00 - Dinner in Sanders Hall
5:30 - Cleanup and Games
6:00 - Worship and Message
6:30 - Reflection and Discussion
7:00 - Pickup

If your family plans to attend the contemporary service with your youth and would like to eat dinner with us, please let me know! It would be awesome to have a few volunteers to assist with dishes around 5:30 before the service begins at 6. Speaking of dinner... Our youth are tired of ordering Pizza for dinner here at Rooted! If you or somebody you know would be interested in providing a meal or assisting with dinner for our youth, please get in touch with me

January 29 - Chili Cook-Off
On January 29th we will be bringing back the Youth Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser! We will meet in Sanders hall at 12:15 following the eleven o'clock service. Youth with be responsible for serving as well as plenty of other jobs. This is a great opportunity to raise money for your summer mission trip, come out and help if you can!
