Arise, shine, for your light has come

This Sunday, January 6, is the great Feast of the Epiphany.  Epiphany celebrates with joy the visit of the wise men to the infant Christ, the Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan, and his first miracle at Cana in Galilee.  Each of these events reveals who Jesus is: the Son of God, the promised Messiah.  We hear about each event in turn in the Holy Gospel at the Eucharist on January 6, 13 and 20.

We'd love to see you and yours on Sunday as we celebrate this beautiful Feast together.  At the 10am Parish Eucharist there'll be Sunday Club for our children, and the service will end at the Crib.  At 6.30pm our Epiphany Carol Service (a newly-designed service for this year) includes a procession of the Magi 'from the East', Epiphany carols and readings, and music for choir and organ.  It's followed by the parish Epiphany party in the Hall, with hot punch and food.  Bring your friends!
Children and young people are a valued part of our Church Family.  Our Sunday Club for children aged 3 and over begins a new term at the 10am Parish Eucharist this Sunday, and everyone's welcome.  For babies and little ones, there's also a creche.  You can see all the dates for Sunday Club this term above.  On other Sundays, there are more informal supervised activities in church during the service.
Sunday 13 January is the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. The Parish Eucharist at 10am will be a family-friendly celebration for all ages, and we’ve specially invited all the families whose children were baptised over the last couple of years to come and join us for the service, during which we’ll be sprinkled with the waters of the font as we give thanks for our own baptism.  We'll have coffee and cake afterwards.  It'll be a great day to invite someone to come to church with you.

Let us pray in the peace of this Christmas celebration that our joy in the birth of Christ will last for ever
We begin our Epiphany celebrations on Saturday afternoon. Twelfth Night, with the Children's Epiphany Party from 2.30 to 4.30pm in the Church Hall.  All our young people are warmly invited.  The party will be the usual mix of crafts, games and a delicious tea.  If you haven't already, please let us know if your child(ren) hope to attend.
We filled the porch of St Mary's with a magnificent 'heavenly host' of angels, all crafted by church and community groups.  If you've not seen them in the flesh yet, make sure you look this weekend - or click here to see some photos.

250 people filled St Mary's for the Blessing of the Crib & Christingle as the sun set on Christmas Eve.  The whole collection has been given to the Children's Society.  Click here to some photos from the service.
It's a white Christmas at St Mary's!  The church was beautifully decorated with white roses, lilies and lisianthus, together with golden angelic trumpets.  The tree was hung with glittered gingerbread angels and painted fir cones, and at the Crib a eucalyptus tree sprouted orange and lemon slices.  The flowers are always given given 'to the glory of God in honour of the Holy Nativity and in loving memory of the Faithful Departed'.  Click here to see some photos of the decorations.
