Help us to be servants of unity

We are in the middle of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, our annual challenge to 'lay seriously to heart the great dangers we are in through our unhappy divisions.'  There are divisions within the churches and between the churches.  Jesus prayed for his friends to be one, so that the world might believe.  This week, we make a particular effort to join our prayers with his.  Brethren, pray!

On Sunday it was great to welcome our brothers and sisters from Attleborough Methodist Church to the 10am Parish Eucharist in St Mary's, when we also welcomed a Methodist guest preacher, the Revd Alec Callaby.  In his sermon he spoke about the miracle of the water made wine at the wedding feast in Cana of Galilee, and reflected on the transformation that Jesus brings in our lives.

There will be midday Prayers for Unity at 12 noon tomorrow (Wednesday) at All Saints' Besthorpe, on Thursday at the Methodist Church, and on Friday at St Mary's.  Please join us.  There are also Eucharists during Unity Week on Thursday at 10am and Friday (the Conversion of St Paul) at 5pm.
Children and young people are a valued part of our Church Family.  You can see the dates for Sunday Club this term above.  We also offer Sunday Club Plus on all other Sundays, Drop-in & Play every Thursday, Friday Fun Club once a month, Messy Church throughout the year and much more besides.

There'll be a meeting to review our children's work and make plans for the future this Thursday (24 January) at 7.30pm in the Upper Room.  Everyone is welcome to come and contribute thoughts, ideas and enthusiasm, whether or not you're currently involved!
It was great to have three new children joining the ranks of the probationers in St Mary's Choir on the Feast of the Baptism of Christ.  They did really well!  A week on Sunday, we'll be admitting Eleanor, who's now been singing for a year, as a full chorister.  New children, aged 6 and over, are always welcome in St Mary's Choir: click here for full details or click here to get in touch with the Director of Music.
Following a recent visit to St Mary’s by Anne Aves when she spoke about the work she is involved in in Israel in memory of former Rector John Aves, whose fifteenth anniversary of death falls this Friday, the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul, we're exploring the possibility of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2020.  There will be a meeting on Thursday 21 February at 7.30pm in the Upper Room, to which anyone who may be interested is warmly invited, with no commitment implied.  Full details in February’s Link, which will be be published this Friday.
Lord, you are the faithful guide of those who seek you with a pure heart: make known your glory!
On Sunday, we announced that the Bishop has appointed Fr Richard Stanton as interim Priest-in-Charge of St John the Baptist, Timberhill with St Julian's, Norwich.  It is the largest parish in the City of Norwich and the post includes care of the Shrine of the Lady Julian of Norwich.  Please pray for him.

Richard's last Sunday with us will be Sunday 17 February, the Third Sunday before Lent, when the 10am Parish Eucharist (at which he will celebrate and preach) will be followed by farewell drinks and lunch for the whole Church Family.

If you know you’ll be staying for lunch on 17 February, please send us a reply to this email or add your name to the sheet which will be at the back of the church from Sunday.  Lunch will be served for ‘all comers’ on the day, but it will help us hugely to have a sense of numbers!
On Sunday 3 February we celebrate Candlemas: the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple.  There’ll be a special Candlemas Eucharist at 10am to acclaim Christ ‘the light to lighten the Gentiles’, followed by refreshments, and later the full choir sings Festal Evensong with beautiful music and a candlelight Procession from the Crib at 6.30pm.  Be sure to come and celebrate with us!
The Candlemas Supper on Sunday 3 February at 7.30pm in the Hall (following Festal Evensong) will be a Lebanese meal, because Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal supports Syrian refugees in Lebanon.  We'll serve two delicious courses plus a glass of wine for £10, and all proceeds go to Christian Aid.  Tickets from the Church Office (454977) or Dorothy Woolliscroft (456211).  Last year we raised just over £4,160 for Christian Aid and already keen to beat that this year.  Come and join us!
We're looking forward to Choral Evensong this coming Sunday at 6.30pm in St Mary's.  Lovely music from the choir, all by twentieth century composers, plus readings, prayers and hymns.  45 minutes.  Everyone's welcome: come and join us!
