The Revd Andrew Slater was licensed as our Assistant Priest at a lovely Eucharist celebrated by the Bishop of Thetford on Thursday morning.  Tomorrow (Sunday) Andrew celebrates the Parish Eucharist for the first time.  Please join us, and stay for wine and cake in the Church Hall afterwards as we welcome him and Jo (back) to the parish.
Two Sundays ago it was great to welcome Anne Aves to the Parish Eucharist to give us an update on the work of the John Aves Education Project.  Thanks to your generosity, we raised £400 for JAEP with this year's benefice Christmas card.  The card is now available in both churches: pick up a copy.
St Mary's Grand Christmas Draw raised a superb £1,287 for church funds: many thanks to all who sold and bought tickets, and to Dorothy Woolliscroft for her organisation and enthusiasm.
On Thursday we visited five of the care homes and sheltered housing schemes in the parish to sing Christmas carols and wish all the residents a happy Christmas and a peaceful & healthy New Year. Thanks to them all for their warm welcome!  We finished at Fairland House Care Home with coffee and mince pies.  Click here to see some photos.
We marked the evening of Advent Sunday with our Advent Procession - a candlelit liturgy of movement and music, during which the choir processes from west to east as the light in the church grows and strengthens, expressing our hopes and yearnings for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Advent hymns and pieces of choral music were interspersed with readings from the Bible which give expression to our Advent prayer: come, Lord Jesus!  Click here to see some photos from the service.
On Wednesday we had a Messy Christmas!  On the first day of the school holidays we welcomed 55 people to make stars, crowns, angels and Christmas trees. We sang carols, said prayers and ate mince pies - a lovely way to spend the afternoon.  Click here to see some photos.
