Hail the day that sees him rise: alleluia!

Today we celebrate ASCENSION DAY, the fortieth day of Eastertide.  Today we give thanks that Jesus, fully human and fully divine, has been exalted to the throne of heaven and reigns over all things as Lord and King.  Come and join us this evening at St Mary's as we celebrate this major feast together.  The Sung Eucharist begins at 7.30pm and includes beautiful choral music and a sermon by the Revd David Smith, Priest-in-Charge of the Harling United Benefice.  We'll be welcoming friends from around the Deanery for this service, and afterwards there'll be wine and light bites as we continue to celebrate.
Christian Aid Week begins this weekend

This is the week when we stand together in the struggle for dignity, for equality and for justice.  Will you stand with us?  Find out more about Christian Aid Week here.

This Saturday the Christian Aid Coffee Morning begins at 10am in St Mary's Hall.  Join us for a cuppa and a chat, some home baking and a flutter on the raffle.  If you could make us some cakes, especially small ones such as scones, cup cakes, sausage rolls, cheese straws, we’d be very grateful.  But most of all, come and support us!

This Sunday we’re delighted to welcome Julian Bryant, Regional Coordinator for Christian Aid Norfolk, as our guest preacher at The Parish Eucharist.  Come and hear him!  Afterwards there'll be a parish lunch as part of our fundraising: lunch includes two courses and wine.  There are still a few lunch tickets available: they cost £10 and are available from the Church Office or Dorothy Woolliscroft (456211).  Please buy them ASAP!

There's no house-to-house collection in the parish this year, but envelopes for your Christian Aid Week gift can be found at the back of the church: please make a gift and return it at any service, or to the wallsafes in church.  Alternatively, you can give securely online.

After the Ascension, the Apostles, the holy women and the Mother of Jesus waited in prayer for 'the promise of the Father', the life-giving Spirit of Pentecost.  In the days between Ascension and Pentecost, we do the same.  Next Wednesday (16 May) we’re holding a Day of Prayer at St Mary’s, part of Thy Kingdom Come, joining hundreds of other Churches to pray for the mission and ministry of the Church around the world. The programme of the day is:

10am Holy Communion
12.30pm Prayer During the Day
3.45pm Messy Church (particularly suitable for accompanied children)
5pm Messy Church Worship
5.30pm Evening Prayer
7.30pm Holy Communion

Please come to as much as you can. We’re also looking for volunteers to pray in the quiet in between the Services. If you can spare half an hour during the day please sign up on the sheet at the back of Church, or drop in at any time until the church closes at 8pm.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful people!
Sunday 20 May is the Feast of Pentecost, the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit.  We'll have a joyful celebration at the festival Parish Eucharist at 10am (with Sunday Club for children).  After the service, please join us for a Pentecost Picnic in the Rectory garden from 12 noon - the whole Church Family is invited.  Bring a rug or chairs and something to eat and drink.
Congratulations to St Mary's Choir who sang two services of Choral Evensong back to back two Sundays ago - at Norwich Cathedral at 3.30pm and St Mary's at 6.30pm.

The next Choral Evensong is on Trinity Sunday, 27 May, at 6.30pm at All Saints' Besthorpe.  The Choir is next singing Evensong at Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 23 June at 3.30pm.
Well done to members of St Mary's Church Family from St Mary’s who completed the 5k ‘Archdeacon’s Charge’ at Holkham Hall on Monday.

When we’ve totted up the sponsorship total we’ll let you have it.  Money will be divided between our Parish Share and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Thanks to all who organised such a great day, and all who took part!  Click here to see some photos.
Our first after-school session of Messy Church takes place next Wednesday, 16 May, from 3.45pm to 5.15pm in St Mary's.  All welcome: join us for food, crafts and worship.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
