Let all the world in every corner sing!

We'd love to see you this Sunday!  We're celebrating the Birthday of St John the Baptist, 'the prophet of the Most High' who 'went before the Lord to prepare his way'.  It's also our first ‘Choir Sunday’, an opportunity to give thanks for the great gift of sacred music, to honour our choir for their commitment (in 2017 they sang at 75 services and rehearsed together for over 140 hours) and to encourage us all in making a joyful sound to the Lord!

At the 10am Parish Eucharist we welcome as our guest preacher the Revd Canon Barry Oake, Chaplain to the Great Hospital and Rector of St Helen’s Bishopgate, who serves on the area committee of the Royal School of Church Music.  There'll be great music including Darke's Mass in F and Gibbons' This is the record of John, children's activities and Pimm's for everyone afterwards.

Later on, come and join us at 6.30pm for Choral Evensong: forty-five minutes of sung praise and prayer, including fine music for choir and organ and hymns for all.

'On this high feast day honour we the Baptist,
Greatest and last of Israel's line of prophets,
Kinsman of Jesus, herald of salvation,
Chosen forerunner.'

During June St Mary’s is open until 8.30pm each day from Tuesday to Friday.  This extension of our opening hours means people can appreciate the church in the beautiful glow of the evening sun.  Come in to pray, to rest, to think, to light a candle, to sit in the Presence of Jesus at the close of the day.  On other days the church closes after Evening Prayer.  We open at 8.30am each morning and at 7.30am on Sundays.
We are blessed with a generous Church Family who take seriously their privilege and responsibility of giving.  THANK YOU for recent gifts to our projects, including...
  • £326 for The Children's Society: we raised £184 through stalls at Coffee & Chat on 2 June, and a further £142 from house collection boxes for this worthwhile charity.
  • £240 for the Uganda Support Fund, which was raised at Coffee & Chat last Saturday.  A group will be visiting Uganda in November, checking on sponsored people and projects and delivering books and other equipment.
  • £1181.86 for Christian Aid, raised in the parish during Christian Aid Week.  The coffee morning raised £324.44, the parish lunch on the Sunday raised £370.50 and £486.92 was donated through the Christian Aid Week envelopes.   This takes the total raised in our parish for Christian Aid so far this year to £2746.
St Mary's Choir will be singing Choral Evensong at Norwich Cathedral tomorrow (Saturday) at 3.30pm. Music includes Sumsion's Responses, the evening canticles in D by Brewer, and Bairstow's 'The King of Love my Shepherd is.' If you're in the city for lunch or shopping, or you fancy going in for the service, it would be lovely to see you.  The 14.08 train from Attleborough will get you to Norwich wih plenty of time to spare.
Earlier this month, members of our Church Family were on pilgrimage in Walsingham.  It was an excellent, prayerful and enriching weekend filled with laughter and friendship.  Click here to see some photos from our time in England's Nazareth.
Our next session of Messy Church takes place on Saturday 7 July from 9.30am to 11am in St Mary's.  All welcome: join us for food, crafts and worship.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Our Summer Fete is on Saturday 21 July from 10am to 2pm.  Is the date in your diary?!  We'd really welcome raffle and tombola prizes, bottles, chocolate and sweets, books (in good condition), children's toys, jewellery, jigsaws, preserves and plants.  Please bring any contributions to the Church Office.  The next Fete planning meeting is this Tuesday (26 June) at 7.30pm: please come and get involved!
Exciting times!  We're making plans for our new friendly cafe space and play zone for pre-school children and their grown-ups, and for all members of our community to mingle and make friends.  Coming soon!  Let us know if you fancy helping out - you just need to be enthusiastic and free on (some) Thursday mornings.  Click here to find out more.
