Dear friends,

It's Shrove Tuesday!  Everyone is welcome for the Parish Pancake Party in St Mary's Church Hall tonight, even if you didn't manage to sign up.  Children come at 6pm for games and pancakes, adults join them at 7pm for pancakes followed by a Beetle Drive.  Please bring nothing except wine, if you wish.  Donation bowls will be available: any profits will go towards our offering for the Bishop's Lent Appeal.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the holy season of Lent.  We should all make every effort to be in church to begin Lent well.  The Holy Eucharist will be said at 10am and sung at 7.30pm.  Both services include the Imposition of Ashes as a sign of our penitence.  At the Sung Eucharist the choir will be joined by visiting soloists to sing Allegri's Miserere.

After Ash Wednesday our parish Lent programme gets underway and this email includes details of all we're offering.   Lent is a wonderful season of the year: the springtime of the Church and the springtime of our souls.  D0n't let it pass you by.  The love of Christ urges us on!

Sunday worship together is at the heart of our keeping of Lent.  The Holy Eucharist is said at 8am and sung at 10am every Sunday.  Children's activities are provided at 10am every Sunday: either Sunday Club or Sunday Club Plus.  There is also a Eucharist at All Saints' Besthorpe at 11.30am on Sundays 18 February, 4, 18 and 25 March.  The simple service of Evensong at 6.30pm is a good way to end Sunday and includes three hymns and a short address.  There is Choral Evensong with the full choir, special Lenten music and no sermon on Sunday 25 February at 6.30pm.

On Tuesdays in Lent our Lent study series is entitled ‘Faith at work’.  We begin a week today, Tuesday 20 February.  Five speakers will be helping us to explore the ways in which the Christian faith shapes and influences their daily work.  The Eucharist is celebrated at 7pm, followed by coffee and then at 7.45pm the talk, questions and discussion, ending with Compline in church at 9pm.  Come for as much or as little of each evening as you like.  Full details on the poster below.  See you at St Mary's, Tuesday nights in Lent!
Seven whole days, not one in seven, I will praise thee!

Every Monday there is an opportunity for relaxed and informal Bible Study, led by Bob and Glynis Baker.  This would be a great part of your keeping of Lent.  The group meets at 7.30pm at 32 Tantallon Drive and is currently taking a look at Old Testament figures.
Every Friday in Lent we will make the Stations of the Cross, following in our Lord’s steps around the depictions of the Way of Sorrows which hang on the walls of our church.  This simple devotional service lasts 40 minutes and begins at 6.30pm.   The prayers, meditations and readings change from week to week.  We begin this Friday, 16 February.

We are inviting members of the Church Family to join together for simple Lent fellowship lunches.  Lent is an excellent time to build fellowship in our Church Family, get to know each other better and support one another, and also raise some money for those in need around the world.  Could you host a lunch for six people?  Click here for details.

Come and sing Stainer's The Crucifixion in St Mary's on the evening of Palm Sunday, 25 March.  If you don't sing, come and listen!  All are welcome: click here for details.  This liturgical performance under the direction of Ben Miller is offered in conjunction with the Royal School of Church Music in Norfolk.
