Latino Academy Family Featured as United Ways Family of the Year
A family from the Latino Academy was selected as the United Way of Dane County's family of the year. Juan Carlos and Cecilia sought help from the Latino Academy and took part in the many programs offered that are supported by the United Way. They were able to find a mentor and a strong support system of peers and get the skills they needed to find more stable employment. Soon Juan Carlos and Cecilia were able to afford their own partment and, once they moved in, were put in touch with other United Way partners so they could make their new space their
new space their very own furnished home - starting them on their pathway out of poverty and contributing to our community.

Congratulations to Juan Carlos and Cecilia for being selected as the United Way's Family of the Year!
Improve Communication with Non-English Speaking Employees
The Latino Academy is proud to announce the development of a new project called Bienvenidos (Funded by the National Council of La Raza). The purpose of this project is to help employers establish better communication with their non-English speaking employees through workplace English as a Second Language classes.

Each ESL for the workplace class will be designed with the specific needs of the employer in mind. The classes are held on location for ease of employee access once a week for a total of 16 weeks. The Latino Academy will provide academic case management to each individual enrolled in the course in order to ensure that their individual language development needs are being met.
