Media Release - Eastern Domestic Violence Service appoints new CEO
The Eastern Domestic Violence Service (EDVOS) Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Jenny Jackson as new CEO.
EDVOS Board Chair, Paula Piccinini said she was delighted at Jenny’s appointment and welcomed her skills and fresh insight.
“Jenny brings over 20 years’ experience in the women’s, health and community sectors. With an impressive track record in senior executive and non-executive roles, she is highly respected as a proven leader with vision, passion, resilience and a strategic focus.”
“Her experience and commitment to equity and social justice will position her well to lead our organisation, as we continue to support women and children affected by domestic violence in the eastern metropolitan region (EMR),” said Paula.
Reflecting on her appointment, Jenny said she was thrilled to join such a high quality, experienced organisation.
“EDVOS has built a strong legacy and maintains such resolute focus on the safety of women and children and the accountability of perpetrators.”
“There is considerable demand for the organisation’s services. I look forward to building on the significant contribution of outgoing CEO, Maryclare Machen to strengthen our capability as an effective, expert and holistic service for women and children,” said Jenny.
Intimate partner violence is responsible for more ill-health and premature death in Victorian women under age 45 than of any other well-known risk factors such as obesity and smoking. Many children are also affected, with one in four having witnessed violence against their mother or step-mother.
“Violence against women and children is an alarmingly common problem in our community. It is vital we all uphold the safety of women and children as a fundamental human right and community understanding is central to that,” said Jenny.
“I hope to enhance that understanding and better equip our community to support women and children who are experiencing family violence.”
EDVOS is a specialist and responsive family violence service providing a range of services to women and children in the EMR who have experienced and are responding to domestic or family violence. The eastern region currently includes 1.03 million people and spans seven Local Government Areas including Boroondara, Knox, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Monash, Manningham, and Yarra Ranges.
